Hi,

Can someone from the national TLCA organization please comment on my question below ...I am a member of the natioal TLCA...FYI.

My question is....exaclty what is required of a new state affiliated chapter to get off the ground and be formally recognized by the national organization as an official state TLCA club?

What has to happen? Are there rules or hard guidelines as to what has to occur, if so where is this published?

Just trying to understand from a local level what it's going to take to make this happen..... I would appreciate feedback from a "person in the know"..

Thanks, Elbert Clarke

Elbert,

Start with this site and it has all your answers

Home of the Toyota Land Cruiser Association

In this site you will find a tab on chapters and starting a chapter. Here is a short cut to it.

How to Start a TLCA Chapter

After reading through this it would be good to drop a line to the IR that covers your area.

This is a link to contacting the eastern rep.

Eastern Rep

And this is to the central rep.

Central Rep

I am not sure which one covers Alabama but I am sure that one of them does.
This should get you to where you are interested in going. Welcome and good luck

Thad...that is flat our scary that we both responded at the same time...nice work!

Do yourself a favor and pick a name, logo, and bylaws before you get too many members.... It can be a pain trying to get 10+ people to agree on these....

We have tentative agreement on the above....but so far, at least from my perspective we are moving at a snail pace. I 'll check out the web site. I just wanted to learn first hand what the issues were and what we needed to do.

From where I sit.... I'm just looking to get a group of people to go ride when we can...does not really matter what you drive...just that everyone has fun.

We have started the ball rolling and I know people have been looking into things...it just seems like we've not made much progress since the inital setup. We have people spread out across the entire state, which makes it hard to meet, and we really don't have engough people at least from what I can tell to make regional chapters...

Not wanting to rain on anyone's parade but I personally need to understand what our hurdles are and what we can reasonably do to meet the criteria.

Thanks

Tall Corn Cruisers is the same way. I'd say half our members are in the Des Moines metro and the rest are spread through out the state, Dubuque, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Fort Dodge, etc. What's worked really well for us is to have a couple gatherings throughout the year. We do most of our communicating online in our club forum.

Although we have a website, the webmaster is a tewl (me) and doesn't keep it maintained.

If you read through some of our threads, you'll see what we have done over the past 3 years for activities. We started out as 6 and have grown to over 20. It's a small group, but we all have a really good time together and are very family oriented. Not all of us wheel, but we all love our 4WD Yotas.

Start with the minimum number needed to start a chapter. (7) if i recall. Make your bylaws and charter. There is one in the threads list above on starting a chapter. With this small number of folks you can apply and become a chapter. Then go out and grow your group. Easier than trying to get a big group to move in one direction. The only hurdle I see is just putting the paperwork together.

Feel free to contact our Eastern Individual Rep, Thom Placier

He'll be more than willing to walk you through the process and get your club sanctioned by the TLCA.

Can't wait to vote y'all in!

PM me when you are ready for a Clubhouse Corner.... (may be ready now)....FREE, and takes about 5 minutes to set up :)

GREAT way to get interest going and things kicked off....and no 'need' initially to be TLCA official until you get organized.

Nice double post there Batman

I think "we" need to decide on what our plan forward is... a number of steps have already happened. Hopefully we can figure out something in a reasonable time because like me....I suspect others are wondering if its really going to get off the ground (as far as a formal club).
