Hey all,
I made my first CLCC meeting last month and also became "A member in good standing".
I feel a little background is in order: I bought my FJ40 for $1500 in June of 1997 and have sunk probably 10 times that amount into it since. I have about 95% of the receipts but am afraid to sit down and tally up the true cost. Though with these rigs it's not about the money, is it? I've also owned a 1990 FJ62 and a 1997 LX450.
Long story short, I restored it in 2000-2001, stored it at my dad's in Philly from 2002-2004, while I was stationed in Japan. I then shipped it to Victoria, BC (my next duty station) via Seattle Washington; this is pretty good story in of itself.
During my time in Victoria (2004-2008) I really got into 4 wheeling and learned the true capabilities of these awesome trucks. Needless to say, the truck received some significant upgrades including a winch, Orion t-case, ARB lockers, body armor, spring over and 35's, oh yeah, and an onboard shower
The Land Cruiser community in on Vancouver Island is small but DEDICATED and are some of the best people I've had the honor to call my friends. I was a founding member of the Vancouver Island Cruisers. the idea started here on 'Mud and came to reality on a back deck when 5 of us got together over several Lucky Lagers. I was truly spoiled since there are some fantastic trails and we wheeled as a club once a month. It was the first Land Cruiser club I ever belonged to and taught me the value of a strong club.
Anyway, I've been to to Raffle truck builds and I'm looking forward to contributing to the club however I can.
Cheers,
-Stump
