the rear tire seems so far away from the back of the truck... really far. i am sure i am going to wack it on something... especially in the city. what a mall cruiser...

speaking of mall cruisers, now i can go wheeling... time to start anouther thread.

Why is the carrier so far out? Is it designed to hold a jerry can or high lift between the back of the tire and the lift gate? Seems odd to be out that far. Did Lance explain why?

no he didnt but it sounds like a good idea. lets have a day at your place where we fab one up!

Is the bumper from Iron Pig?

Sounds like plan. What do you want/need to carry back there?

The first thing I would plan to build is another spare tire carrier. Toss that thing, or ask Lance for a refund, send it back. it sticks our WAAAAY too far, it's gonna get bent. Even bouncing around city streets in Boston is gonna hammer on that pivot pin.

X2. It will also create problems in the woods with trees making contact and getting jammed in the space between the back of the tire and bumper.

i am sure that if i call and ask him whats up he will accomodate. he sounds like a reasonable guy.

He is, I've met him. Most of his stuff is top-notch, so this is kinda surprising. But seriously, the way that tire is sticking out, the spindle is the only thing absorbing the torque action when you hit a bump. It's not gonna last long, it's either bend or snap off.

Not been my experience at all. The spindle isn't the only thing holding it in - the cross bar to which the tire carrier is welded rests on the bumper on the right side, attached via the spindle on the left. There isn't torque action.

Anyway, my 2 cents. I have had no problems with my IPOR bumper. Nothing gets caught between it and the truck on the trail.

And with the tire a bit back, there's no chance it will flex into the back glass.
