So I unexpectedly picked up a 100 last week. It is a rare expedition white 99’ ;).

A Rover friend called me saying his friend wanted it gone as they just bought a new car and their driveway as full. He mentioned it was a 97’ and needed work. Since I have done everything to my 97’ (ROTW link in signature), I wasn’t scared of an 80 needing work. Well, when I showed up it was clear that he had the wrong year as it was a 100. CEL was in and indicated misfires on 1 & 2. No biggie since it has 191k miles and it was very cheap. I bought it with the idea of working on it, keeping it completely stock and DD it until my 10 year old started driving. I figure it would be a great first rig for him since he was wheeled with me in the 80 since he was a baby and he loves cruisers.

Today I pulled the coils, plugs, PCV hose. All coils looked original except number 8 (it was Denso, but it was a little different). Since 1&2 are Now gone, I went ahead and ordered eight new ones and I will have a few spares for friends.

I already ordered eight new Denso coils and Denso iridium plugs. Need to order the PCV hose and grommet. Unfortuntely it looks like I need a new air box too :bang:. The PO or their mechanic as I am pretty sure the PO never changed a tire clearly had an issue with the air assembly and broke off the plastic nipple. Their solution was the JB weld that hose to the assembly. I hope these assemblies aren’t crazy expensive.

I am no expert, but I didn’t think any of the plugs looked old or bad. They are Denso too so the PO May have had some sense. What do you plug experts see from the plugs, if anything?

One of my favorite things about the cruiser.

About $330 new. Mine had a different nipple broken off but I was able screw in a brass plumbing fitting to replace it. Been keeping my eye out for a used one but the few I've seen have had some type of damage. You might want to see if you could do a better repair to the one you have.

BTW, welcome to the 100 club.

try ebay or one of the reputable used land cruiser parts for that air assembly as Im sure some rich kid pulled his off for a K&N cold air intake for all of that extra power lol !

Change your heater tees ASAP, and enjoy!

Welcome to the hundy forum. I'm a 80 transplant too.

I loved my 1993 and 96 80’s. You will instantly love the 100! I sold my 96 and never looked back.

Funny thing, I have a 200 and kept my 100 for the kids and still drive the 100 most of the time...

The plugs look pretty fresh which is good. The brake booster is really clean, and the brake fluid looks pretty clean as well. Too bad about the airbox, maybe can be found in a pull-a-part.

How about some pics of the truck?

It needs to be cleaned up before it is pic worthy. Years of sitting outside under a tree have taken its toll. If this white paint is like the single stage white on my 80, it should clean up brilliantly.

The booster is a brand new aisin...six months old and had to cost a mint.

The sunroof is also broken. Seems common as the cables are probably the culprit. It is leaking like crazy so I assume all the years sitting under a tree have clogged the drains. Since I can’t open it to clean it, I guess the headliner is coming th down and the sunroof removed to clean everything up. I honestly don’t plan to fix it, just get it all clean and silicone that thing shut. I never use mine on my 80.

This 100 is staying completely stock for the foreseeable future. I LOVE my 80 and it is built for what I like to do...it isn’t going anywhere...except out West for longer periods of time. I have kept it out West a good bit over the past few years and fly out to grab it and explore the desert. Now it may stay out there a lot longer.

Decided to repair the air box instead of buying another one. The PO mechanic simply JB welded the hose to a plastic barb and then both of those to the box. This made removing/changing the PCV hose impossible. I just bought a 1/2” nylon barb from Home Depot and JB welded it to the air box. Now I can change the hose when needed.
