Is it just me or is there a veritable plethera of newbies on 80-series Tech. Seems to me alot of new members to the 80s family. I think we are taking over mud.
Cheers,
Sean

Sean,

As the price of the vehicle drops we'll see even more. Overall I think its a good thing. More people wheeling 80 series means more mods available for them.

Salud!

And I'd imagine people who don't use their capabilities are dumping them because of gas prices.

Sean, Alvaro, and Tech Dog you are all correct. The 80 has reached that point where it has become a very affordable vehicle for a wider group of people. At one time when they were fairly new no one would even conider off-roading a 40 or 50 thousand dollar vehicle. THese days around here in memphis TN you can almost buy a fully loaded 93-95 LC with lockers for what you would pay for a semi-clean 60 or 62 with more miles. When i was in high school i sold a very cherry 86 60 that was very nicely outfitted ARB.OME.Lockers etc for 8.5K to a local businessman and hunter and 2 weeks later my boss bought a loaded 94 80 for 6.3k with lockers and that made me jealous as hell. Also my Dads best friend of 35 years is a local auto wholesaler and since talking with my friends and I 4 or 5 years ago he has become quite the LC broker/seller. He has told me on several occasions that the LC is a truck that is a guaranteed sale for him. Everytime he gets one he says he can put whatever price he wants on it and is guaranteed to get it. He also has told me that more and more people have started coming to him asking him for trucks with lockers because they want to take their families places that their tahoes and suburbans won't go. He has also sent many people to me to help them install suspensions and accessories on their new trucks seeing as how i am one of a VERY few locals with in-depth 80 experience. The only downside to all of this is that the clean examples of un-modded un-molested 80's are becoming very scarce around here and the examples that are still around are bringing top dollar which prohibits guys like me from sourcing and purchasing clean examples easily and affordably like i was doing just a few years ago. Matt Coleman

Not a completely accurate statement.

I had a lift under mine within 2 months of pruchasing it and took it to Canyon Lands when it was 4 months old.

We have always known you were 'special':princess:

Agreed, not a totally accurate statement Dan, but true to almost 90% of origional 80 owners. Hell almost all the trucks i have ever looked at the owners thought that lockers were power door locks for pete's sake. My best frien bought a 93 in 2001 and didn't even know it had lockers until we took it wheeling for the first time over a year later. And as far as mods go there is still a hella majority of folks that don't even know you san "lift" an 80 much less a 100.....MATT

Yep. Those of us on the lunatic comittee have been wheeling ours since new. I had mine off-road and pinstriped before I had the the license plates on it.

I subscribe to the "don't buy white carpet unless you'll still be willing to walk on it" theory.

Plans are more toward Baja running, and less on rock crawling. .

That's what we all said. I could not get why people wanted to drive over rocks.
If you don't want to rock crawl stay away from it. Don't even try it. It's a slippery slope once you do.

the more the merrier :D

It's all about the gas prices and/or people wanting to upgrade to newer vehicles. Most owners have no idea nor care what the vehicles are capable of.

Better for those of us who do know what they can do. :D

Bought new and spent a 3 day weekend in Anza Borrego with it 72 hours later. It was in low range for the entire weekend and I asked my wife to marry me on Font's Point as the morning sun hit the 80s dusty Emerald Green paint on day 2.

Agree the prices are now bringing lots of new folks here. I think it's great for all of us as they fall into the 'right' hands. As the 80 section of Mud grows, I hope that we police our own and keep this a tech-oriented site and one that does not descend into the youth oriented trash-talking that drives older experienced guys like me away. I have not seen it here and really appreciate it. Of course Dan can say whatever he wants to.........
