hello all,

I am expecting a 2015 petrol 76 to arrive next week. I am in Dubai, and mainly drive in the deserts.

I've been off-roading for 30 years or so in other brands, but this is my first Toyota.

As near as I can tell the 76 has a small loop on the passenger side front frame rail and a Pintle hitch in the rear.

How do I get good tow points on each end of each frame rail? The aftermarket bumpers all seem to come without tow points or shackle brackets. I see a few add on ones, but they all seem to bolt to one side of a frame rail and don't inspire a lot of confidence for pulls at wierd angles. These are quite common in the desert. We also often want to stabilize a vehicle stuck In a near rollover situation, and having the tow points closer to the corner than a center mounted hitch can keep you from having to run a strap across the bodywork.

Same question for the back bumper.

These trucks are obviously used hard all over the world. I'm sure somebody has figured this out.

Thanks!

You can bolt those recovery hooks onto both sides of the chassis and connect a chain sling with a single shackle for straight forward or backwards pulls. They have proven to be quite robust.
Or otherwise you need a heavy duty bumper with recovery points at each extremity

Does the 2015 come with plastic bumpers ?.
If it does you would need to fab up a cross section between both rails and behind both bumpers. All modern plastic cars have a screw in type bolt for towing as everything under car is very weak and would bend if towed. I would run the same thing but it would need to be 1 1/2 to 2 inch to take a good side load on all the four corners plus they would handle a hi-lift jack.

Plastic bumpers don't last long in the dunes out here, so I the bumper will be replaced as quickly as I can find a steel one, but I haven't found one yet that incorporates recovery points. It hurts my feelings to pay what ARB charges and not even get recovery points out of it.

My other thought is to go with the aftermarket recovery points and simply weld in a cross bar behind the bumper to link them together and spread the load.

Yes ,I was looking at my rear ARB bumper with twin tyre carriers and each corner has a sturdy eyelet for a shackle. I post up a pic later.

The front mounted chassis hooks were also on the 60 and 70 series, at least for the 1980s models
Code RED, there is lots of stuff on aussie ebay that will bolt straight to your front chassis rails. Some of it claimed to be rated at 22T

Thanks Rosco, I knew I could count on Perth for an answer!

I didn't realize the ARB rear had those.

My rear ARB bumper is the $4000 model ,I didnt pay for it, the mug who owned it before me did.
IMO , you would be better off getting something made, like you suggested.
I wouldnt pay $4K for what I have.

I said I had a ARB rear bumper, its actually a Kaymar sold through ARB . Not my troopy but very similar bumper design. You can see the 2 recovery points.
The advert was meant to be for the longranger fuel tank.

4WD Systems, Tjm also make similar bumpers ,no idea on price. Just drop into the store and ask.

Some info I picked up, TJM are saying the 75 , 78 series bumper wont fit onto a 76 series.Maybe it is only their bumpers.
So ask before ordering.

send them an email

Looks like I am going to get something fabbed up locally. I'll post photos when I have it.
