Want to get some opinions on the new 4Runner. Sold the 80 series and she wants something smaller than the LX; thus, I will be driving the LX after I get her a new car. As I was researching, the exterior dimensions are exactly same as the 80 series but wheelbase being 110. Your thoughts on the new 4Runner.

Thanks.

Not that I am a 4runner expert.. but I like the new one and it has got many good reviews from what I have read compared to the direct competition. Stays true to its roots

Not for the 80s forum....try posting in chit-chat or the 4Runner forum.

That said...the new 4Runner is slick!

I posted here because...

the new 4runner is exact same size as the 80 series and want to get 80 people's thought on that.

another thought...

solid front axel swap doable down the road and with all the new toyota gizmos, the 4runner will be one cool truck. I'm also planning on my wife getting sick of the truck in about 3 years. Just wondering if any 80 people here have thoughts about 4runner being the ideal off roader due to its "perfect" size.

yeah, i won't be telling the wife the exact size

people are use to 4runner being mid size suv

Can't comment on the newest version as only the doctors, lawyers and business owners seem to pony up the new sticker price.
Haven't heard negatives yet which always seems to get around quickly.
Certainly smaller than a Sequoia or Tahoe as of yet.
I'm too cheap to buy new anymore as I think of the dog, tree branches, crossing creeks etc
I doubt you would regret getting a new one but better let the wife test drive one for her blessing.

Personally think the new 4Runner is fugly and overpriced.

I think you would be making a really bad financial decision buying a brand new 4runner for around ~$40K when you know you'll probably only keep it for 3 years. You will loose thousands of dollars. Why not get a 3rd or 4th gen 4runner for $5-15K, drive it for 3 years and get 90% of what you paid for it back? SAS a 5th gen 4runner for your wife to sell it in 3 years too? WTH for? Are you really going to take a $40K truck out where you'd even get to take advantage of a solid front axle? Not to mention loose a lot of it's road manners - especially when your wife is the one who'll be driving it mostly? I've been wheeling my IFS 3rd gen for 10 years and still haven't justified an SAS yet.

Dad just got a 2011 Trail yesterday, its pretty damn sweet, the slider in the rear hatch is cool, looks good, rides good(firm) and has alot of cool stuff, all kinds off traction stuff that I have not got a clue about......but it still has a trasfer case lever on the floor.......so thats a GOOD thing ;)

its his 1st toyota

I'm with Brian on this one, but I do have to say, there is still something cool about buying a NEW car....

I think he means to take over the runner when his wife tires of it.

I like the new runner, good reviews. toyota ran it through the rubicon and thrashed the hell out of it before it hit the market. it survived.

as far as your wife, if she is like mine, she will tire of the truck like ride, as it is on a frame, and would probably prefer the ride of the highlander, being a crossover.
