Howdy all.
After replying to MJM's thread about parts I thought "Gee, maybe I oughta have introduced myself first.."
Anyhow I've been lurking for a while and have found some great info on this site so far concerning mostly various Toyotas (on my 3rd Taco) I've owned and wrenched on. Since recently moving from OR to OH I found this regional section and here I am. It's always nice to have semi-local people to swap parts with and wheel with.
Once I get my pictures organized I can show ya'll what I'm working with, but long story short, a buddy of mines brother down in Missouri has had 2 '76 40's in a field for a while, and when it came time for them to move along I ended up with one. So now that it sits in my garage in Cleveland plans are formulating... It will need at a minimum...2 more tires, complete brake job, master and slave cylinder, some rewiring on the lights and unknown engine work (turns over, thats as far as I've got.) Supposedly was running fine 3 years ago when parked. The fenders have been hacked
, the shackles look like some of the AutoZone "rake your Nova" specials, and the air pump and air injection manifold has been removed from the engine. Stock other than that. It's Ugly, but the interior is remarkably intact along with all the floor pans save for some pinholes in the bed area. Frame is also in good shape. The major areas of concern for me are the front inner rear fender/rear transition between floor and bed areas.
I had decided to keep the 2F before I even had the rig home, assuming it would run without a full rebuild.
Shortly thereafter (and before I had time to get it going) a B3.3 kindof fell into my lap, so rather than potentially spend a couple hundred bucks on the unknown, I'm pretty sure the Cummins is going in with a Ranger OD box.
Once I have the drivetrain sorted out I plan to get some new (or at least better) front fenders, and improve my now non-existant sheetmetal skills by welding in new wheel arches from 16ga. At some later date I suspect I will end up dissasembling the entire body, blasting everything, and redoing the sheetmetal properly... AKA when I have a bigger garage that isn't also occupied by 2 1/2 dirt bikes, tools, a K5 on 39.5's, etc...
OK, that's a little about me and what I've got cooking!
