anyone have any thoughts on this unit? I am thinking of biting the bullet but wondering why it is this is out there but our factory alts cannot be increased in amperage? Any Aussies out there know anything about this company? I emailed them a question as to where is made in terms of country? China, Japan, Taiwan???

Curious to know the country of origin also... Although my truck is 24v, I was able to get a local shop to rebuild the alternator however if the splined shaft was ever to wear out it would be nice to source new units and not just used ones!

Cheers

heck check my threads and I gave the source out for brand new shafts with carbon brushes for I totally rebuilt mine and was only like $125 for new shaft and splined pump thingy with brushes on back

They are most likely the OEX brand and very high quality. They are not saying where they are made because they are most likely made in China.
It wouldnt stop me from buying one as I have had an OEX 120A alternator on my 1HZ powered 73 series and it performed faultlessy in the 5 years I had it.
It was actually tested to 137A at 2000rpm according to the card that came with it.
And I bet that 80A job will exceed 90A
OEX are distributed through Ashdown Ingrams and Repco, which is all part of the same comglomerate that owns ACL bearings.
Theyve been around since 1930.

See my post above.OEX make a 24v alternator with vac pump to suit various B and H powered landcruisers, dynas and coasters at about the same price as the 12v.

cool, I might go for it. but gonna do more research, I have a winch, adding extra lights, gonna run my on board frig in rear, dual luna battery monitor. Wish I would have known about this back couple years ago

looks worth a try. I just bought a new oem. even with winch, lights, fridge I've never really had a problem with 55a and dual batterys.

If I had more time to do it again i would switch over to an npr alt.. something you can roll into any napa, checker or autozone and get for $100.

huh? for what application? 2f's are 40a

for a bj70 12v is 55a, 24v is 30

bj60's 12v is 55a

There's all kinds of applications. I'd suspect that something with a 40a would be from the 70's. I don't know what 3b's were 12v in the 70's.

The parts manual list the BJ70 as having a 40a,50a as well as a 55a

Was there a 3B at all in the 1970s? I thought the 2B was introduced in 1980 and the 3B in 1982

Just confirm it is an OEX if you are going to take the leap.

3B alt is 40 amp

Rob's correct.

The last of the BJ4# series (mid eighties) didn't get more than 40A output:

Oops. I deleted most of the "2H alternator information" but accidentally left a few in there

PS. My BJ40 alternator is rated at only 35A yet it's entirely adequate for my needs.

for au, what years?

I was thinking b and 3b since they share so many parts

Its a bit vague,it has one diagram for all including including the 13BT.

The Coasters have some larger alternators including a 24v 85a and it also mentions parts for 12v 80 and 90a alternators, but not the alternator itself.Might be a mistake.
Not sure if you can see this

Your house must be near empty or full of stuff made pre 1975.

Toyotas own suppliers like Denso have set up plants through out SE Asia to make electrical components. I had a Malaysian starter,an Indonesian a/c compressor and Chinese alt on my 73 series, all worked flawlessly.
A local auto electrician told me the quality was identical to OEM and he wouldnt have known the difference if it hadnt been for the colours of the insulation and other little bits on my starter.
My current chinese made 1HZ alternator is coming up 2 years old and working perfectly, chargeing up to 3 batteries at once.

I have yet to see anything rubbishy come from Taiwan since the 1970s,if anything, they are the new Japan when it comes to quality and are fast becoming the best educated peoples in the world.

Be very careful
Such high out put alernators can also over charge your batteries and make them useless
They can make your batteries over charge and useless

good to know Rosco, I just tried to go with all Japanese stuff when I did my resto for everyone told me to steer away from others so I did. I might try the alternator anyway then. As long as it could always be rebuilt I am fine with it.

overcharging? really? please tell more

In oz ,rebulding landcruiser alternators and starters has become a thing of the past. If you buy new,you should get 10 years out of it.
Most owners sell a vehicle within that time frame.
If you want to rebuild, check with the vendor, but I think most of these will accept OEM repair kits.

I see the buy it now price of that one in your original ebay link has dropped to $299 LOL
