Figured I'd have my friends from Mud help me decide.

I have a choice between a new 2016 and a 2015 with 25K miles on it for about $12K under a new 2016. Both are the same color. I love all the features of the 2016 but trying to decide if saving $12k is enough to pocket and go with a 15. I'll keep either for a long time. My son will end up with my excellent condition hundy w 143K miles so not getting rid of my current LC. I'm ready to make the move to a 200 series. I'm mostly overlanding and daily driving. No plans to crawl but who knows. As fas as mods, it will probably go no further than sliders and roof rack. I do not plan to change suspension or bumpers.

So, what do you think?.....2016 because it's worth the extra 12K for the 8 speed trans, LED lighting, safety features, cameras, redesigned interior and exterior ....or, go with the 2015 because it is mechanically the same (except for it's down two gears) and pocket the savings?

Cheers

Moose

I haven't searched inventory lately but you might be able to find a new '15 similarly priced with fewer miles.

Doesn't the 16 have the different seats? Seems like there's been complaints about the leather in the new type of seats.

is it the seats or those who own them being picky?

I'd think of it this way:

Same price for each BUT...

Choice is a STOCK rig (2016)...

...Or a sweet 2015 with Sliders, Skids, KO2 Tires, ARB Drawers in back, front bumper/winch & rear bumper (!!).

The first choice might be kinda perty in a mall cruiser sorta way...
But the second choice? KILLER.

Easy decision (for me).

Not sure!

I think there were a few comments about creasing of that new style leather. Also the screens in the headrests were less than optimal.

CPO on the 2015?

2016 = $76K
2015 = $64K + CPO extended warranty, though you'll need to figure your annual mileage to see if it's really relevant.

$64K seems to be a good CPO price or fair retail price. If it was a mom with lots of kids i'd look over the cosmetics closely (I'm still finding drink stains in hidden places), and if a Houston truck, obviously look for flood and hail damage/repair, though I assume that's obvious since you just lived through it.

$61K would look real good. ;-)

What pricing are you getting. ?

I'm working w the same dealer on both. They had me at the top of their list to call if they got a used 200 series. They called to say they had one coming in that is in like new condition w 25K. Knowing they also had a 16 on the lot, I also asked about that one. They were not firm yet (they were still checking on what they could do) so they quoted a difference of 12-13 less for the 2015 indicating that the 15 would be mid-high 60's and the 16 would be high 70's. I saw on your other post they you have a 16 inbound for 76.5. That's better than what we seem to be able to get in Texas. So, I'm assuming, for now, 67k and 79k. If that's what it comes out to be, I may need to talk to your dealer in the NE. PM me with a dealer contact if you don't mind. It would be much appreciated.

The answer is to always get a new one. For me, anyway.

It just FEELS better. It's an emotional purchase as much as anything (you clearly don't need a Land Cruiser), so get the one you're more excited about. You won't care about the $12k in 5 years I'm guessing.

Plus, the improved interior, blind spot monitors, relocation of key buttons, better looking front end would all justify buying new.

Simply see which dealers within 300 miles have the 16 on the lot or coming and send each through internet an offer. Got one that way $1000 over invoice back in October when first one started to arrive. Had to drive 120 miles to pick it up, but it was well worth it since supposedly everyone was charging sticker at that time.

I had a dealer in DC area this past weekend offer to sell me a brand new silver LC200 for 72500 before ttl.... your dealer can go lower than 76 on the new one, trust me.

Wow! That seems really low. When I look up invoice, it comes in around $76K. How can they sell for $3,500 under invoice? One issue we have down here in Texas is Gulf States Toyota forces some add-ons to the dealers like protection packages, $300 carpeted floor mat package etc. which tacks on 800-1,000 to the MSRP. I'm guessing some of the dealers up north don't have to add those things. We can get them lower but not down to 0 on those add-ons. Looks like I'll be broadening my search.

Occasionally the dealer just wants it off their lot. Toyota may have forced the LC on the dealer and that dealer may not want to carry the interest on the LC for months until it sells.

If you're debating between 2015 and 2016 for price reasons, I highly recommend you look at some CPO 2013 or 2014 models. As you can see between 2015 and 2016, the depreciation curve on a new LC is steep, and a CPO 2013 or 2014 with 30-40k will be in the $50s. Also keep in mind as long as it's being sold by a Toyota dealer and it's still under the factory warranty, you can add a platinum 7 year/100k Toyota vehicle service agreement (VSA) for about $1250 (after negotiation), which will give you better coverage than CPO.

If you're debating between 2015 and 2016 just for the $10k savings, go with the 2016. You'll know the history, you'll get better loan and insurance rates on a new vehicle, and you won't kick yourself for the few extra options you wanted.

I'm guessing this was a the case. It was a smaller dealer... the sales director said it was employee pricing but who knows.. it was also the end of the month so maybe they needed to move a few more units to reach some corporate goal... I'm sure he planned to apply the 2% holdback to the unit as well to help cover the difference below "invoice" pricing...

I was in a very similar situation to you and opted for the 2016. For me, the upgraded interior, console/nav screen, blind spot monitor, cameras, dual headrest LCD screens, etc. are worth it. I still like how the 2015 and prior year LCs look, but I am so glad that I decided to go with the 2016. Absolutely no regrets.

I also agree with another post in that if you're going to get pre-owned, then may be better to look at 2013 and 2014 models as well to get more savings since they're identical to the 2015s. For me, savings of $10K-$12K is not big enough to sway me from a brand new 2016.

Also, with the CPO 2015, has it been driven for close to 24 months or did they rack up 25K miles in one year? If it's a 2015 model that's close to 2 calendar years old, then I really don't think $10K-$12K is a big enough discount compared to buying new. If it's the latter, with 25K miles driven in one year...while I know miles are nothing on an LC, I just personally wouldn't purchase one that was driven that much in one year (or would want a bigger discount than $10K-$12K).

Regarding the seats, I have not had any issues with my seats (love the brown color, look, and feel) - I believe that was an issue with one owner who had to get a new seat cushion ordered.

Good luck.

Thanks all. Many of you have said what I was thinking.....if the difference is only $10-12K, go with the 16. There are just too many cool new updates. If I could find a clean 13, that may provide a bit more incentive to going used as the price spread would be bigger. Also, the nice thing about a 16 is if I have to search the country for a decent deal, I'm always comparing the same condition vehicle. I won't have any surprises. Used ones can be hit or miss and more difficult to assess if not local.

How big a cost savings would persuade you?

I'm seeing a good number of 2014 and 2013's with only 20k or so...for $59k on autotrader.com

This is how I would choose: Which one always makes me smile, when butt hits leather? Go with that one. If you say both... then save yourself some cash, if neither... why are you looking at a 200?
