Hello all,

We just picked up a '14 Silver on Black. We also have a 45 and a 55 that are really too nice at this point so this newb will get all the trail miles. My wife is on a Search and Rescue team and works dogs hours a day, when she's not sofware enginerdering, so it will have a lot of work to do week to week. It won over a 300GDt conversion because of it's towing ability. We'll someday hopefully be able to sell our 3500HD with this purchase (over the G).

We have three working dogs who have to be accommodated :) With the Ozarks and Big Bend being some of our favourite places in the world it looks like car camping is our future. We previously backpacked a lot in the PNW, Appalachians and now around here - as well as other parts of the world when we were younger. Kennels in the truck will make things far far easier and we expect to get out a lot more.

The main offroad usage will probably be Arkansas and Big Bend. I work in Mexico and Costa Rica often so expect longer trips, though less often, south of Texas as well.

Here is our immediate shopping list and would appreciate alternate suggestions. I think we've gone over all the usual options 927 times by now but there is always more to learn!

Eezi-awn 2.2m rack for it's 54" width due to below rtt (en route to US now, late Feb arrival apparently)
--if above is too long to wait the Rhino Pioneer is next (frontrunner ruled out due to 48" width given teh awning below?). Our main concern is mounting a larger than normal awning that is also somewhat outboard of the rack due to the rtt type?

Baloud RTT - probably the Evasion but open to suggestion. 6' and 5'4 and we are used to tiny backpacking tents. I'm only concerned about the hard shell length and sleeping comfortably at my height. It will also help serve as a SAR rehab station. We've read every review we could find and the three doors of the evasion will come in handy along with the rest of the qualities.

Bundatec Bundu Awn: http://www.bundutecusa.com/bunduawn.html This is the biggest unknown of our list. Nice looking wraparound awning. Has anyone seen one in person? The self supporting nature is helpful but it's pretty windy around here. I have been corresponding with Rory and discussing the aluminized coated material. 7-10F drop can make a big difference here in the Summer but I'm concerned about durability. South Africa is not exactly the most comfy environment so I suspect it would be well made if a somewhat unknown quantity here? This may be the most used component of the exterior equipment and probably see three days a week of unfurling and furling at each site.

TJM front. I've asked Ryan at Extreme about a special order and ETA. My wife prefers it's aesthetics and I like that it comes with the trim piece instead of having to cut. I've read what I could find on the 200 fitment but it seems somewhat less common. ARB is the obligatory second choice. Would it be worth the wait over ARB?

Rear with swing outs..I guess it will be ARB by default?

With all that said we are expecting to require suspension rate change. Are there good standard or even non-standard offerings to default towards? I saw ohlins mentioned in another thread and we like them on our bikes ...though I don't imagine we need 4 way+ for this application. Completely open to suggestion here as I've spent the least amount of research on this area.

I'm looking forward to joining the crew here and perhaps offering something back some day!

Nice to know that another 200 in North Texas went to a good home. Post pics of the build as you go.

Welcome.

I too weighed the options on the front bar, and like you, decided on the TJM. It doesn't poke out as far as the ARB, doesn't require cutting of the bumper, and is nearly $1000 cheaper. Whats not to like about that!? Istalling a bull bar will require a rate change. The makers mentioned below, all offer a stiffer front spring. OME (old man emu) makes a good higher rate rear spring that most members of this site choose to use.

For a rear swing out, check out a company called Kaymar. Make sure you are sitting down when you read the price. Way better looking than the ARB. Slee OffRoad has made the best looking rear bar as a custom 1-off for a customer. Sadly, they have stated they will not be releasing it to the public though.

For suspension. You have 2 directions you can go. You can buy a racing suspension setup (Olin, King, Icon, Radflo, Fox, etc.) or you can buy a more OEM like suspension (Old Man Emu, IronMan, Koni, Bilstien, Tough Dog, etc.) Racing suspensions will be the best performing, but require a lot more maintenance, and have little to no warranties on how many miles they will last before needing to be serviced. Some have warranties on broken parts, but I have not seen any that offer warranties based on time or mileage. The more OEM-like non-racing shocks will require little to no maintenance, but will not be as high performance. You just need to weigh your options for your needs. I am not planning on blasting through the desert, jumping dunes, etc. I will be doing mostly daily driving in mine, and a few off-road trips a year. I am more interested in making my 200 an overland rig, so I decided on the IronMan, as they offered good performance, and have a 60,000km warranty. The Old Man Emu's will last a long time, though many complain that they are too stiff on a 200. A few members have Koni 90's on their 200s, and are very pleased with them too.

Best you start going through all of the threads and start finding out what best suits your needs. There are some great write-ups and reviews on this site.

Thank you both for the welcome.

MS, I saw on another post that you were hunting down TJM stock. Summit now show a March 6th ship date - just a few weeks really :) I strongly suspect this is what I'll do, probably tomorrow when I can confirm cancellation/refund if their timelines slip. They do show immediate shipment of some winches so the previous stock must be transferred over.

I'm waiting on a lot of email replies otherwise so I can start ordering > install > travel

Thanks again!

I too am eyeing Summit, and they do price matching to boot. I was in contact with Ryan at Extreme Landcruiser, but they forgot about me and never contacted me back, so I decided to go somewhere else. Do call LT at MetalTech, and see if he can get you the TJM. We should at least try to support our paying vendors at this site first and foremost. Maybe you can get them to throw in a MetalTech pint glass too (I have a freezer full of them!). Andy's Autosport seems to have the cheapest advertised price, but they have gotten a bunch of bad reviews, so caveat emptor. BTW, Summit will NOT try and beat the Andy's price, as the bumpers have different part numbers (they are the exact same ones though). Again, call MetalTech first, and just see if they can get it for you. I think I remember L.T. Saying that they were now a TJM distributor.

Agreed 100% on supporting our vendors. I have a number of emails out - though not yet to MT. I'll do that next. Ryan replied to me right away and then did answer additional questions over the past three days but "60-90 days lead time" is quite a lot and that's assuming actual delivery.

Tomorrow we're ordering from whoever I can find in stock:
Eezi-awn 2.2m
Baroud Grand Raid..probably. We're measuring out the Explorer/Evasion so we can make the decision tonight on a 54" vs 64" width. The only reasons we are considering the narrower tents are ease of mounting the wraparound awnings (bundutec / foxwing / batwing) and for lower weight. The Grand Raid will already overhang 5" on each side of the rack which doesn't leave much room for anything else. A 6-10" bracket hanging out from an extruded Alu rack to clear the underside of the RTT doesn't seem ideal. That's a lot of lever. Undecided.

My wife has issued an ultimatum for this new truck. I'm on the hook for a Big Bend camping trip in three weeks time. With three big dogs the above are the 'minimum' we need. After decades of ultralight backpacking I'm loving this new definition of 'minimum' LOL

Welcome. Interested in your build. I'm in DFW as well. Let me know if you find any decent local vendors.

Thanks MS,
I do know TRD and although they carry IronMan I think Summit has TJM locked.

So far ordered and paid:
-TJM T13 BullBar (Mar 6) [Summit after a lot of vendor contacts]
-James Baloud Grand Raid RTT [AlaskaLeather]

Waiting to pay:
-TJM 12k Stealth will be ordered as soon as Slee is back in the office [Slee if in stock, Summit if not]

Backordered and due this month:
-Eezi-awn 2.2m rack [Equipt1]
-Bundatec BudaAwn reflective

Still undecided:
Rear bumper/swingouts (looking like ARB via TRDparts)
Suspension (PDX suggested waiting for new OME)

Things should start arriving over the next couple of weeks!

If you don't mind sharing, what was the shipped price of the T13? Did you get them to do price matching? If so, who did you show them?

I didn't bother with price matching as we were happy at a little over 1200 shipped. I wanted to commit and move on. Only the lack of instant gratification by 'walking out' with the thing is dampening my otherwise excited mood :)

Things have started arriving today at the two week mark but not yet a license tag LOL:

ARB rear with both swing outs, hilift, flaps, safari - Thanks Slee!
Rigid 20"
Nemo shower
Rhino luggage bag for top of Baroud

Ordered and still en route:
Baroud Grand Raid
Eezi-awn full rack (pending Long Beach delays)
TJM 15k winch
Various recovery gear pieces for a super heavy pig truck
Nemo Mambo for Baroud

Ordered, paid, awaiting ETA:
TJM Bullbar T13
WhiteKunckle sliders

About to order as soon as invoice confirmed, hopefully today/tomorrow:
Schutt Xventure XV-2
Northstar Plastics (2) dog kennel for the XV

Still waiting on more info:

SUSPENSION - BP51, Koni90 Raids with new model springs..?
Underbody protection..?

First trip planned for 2nd/3rd week of March. ~1600mile rt. Big Bend is one of our favourite places to spend time. We've never tried Black Gap Road but have a fish camp picked out. See Black Gap at about 10:00:

Second trip planned for last part of March/early April: Beach camping.

Will you be installing yourself or have you found a good shop in the metroplex?

Hi FWTXLC,

We're installing everything ourselves - or thats the plan! Not that we can do any of that as of yet. We have a bunch of parts here now but not any two of which that could combine to actually hang on the truck.

Garage day?
