Man Keith when you get involved in something you don't do it half assed, do you! Thanks for all of your efforts with land use lately, I am sure that I speak for all of us when I say they are greatly appreciated.

I was planning on going to the meeting tonight and then I ended up going to Albuquerque for the week...

Thanks Harry!!
Just keeping an eye out and seeking opportunities to do SOMETHING in lieu of bitching about it AFTER the fact.
I'm learning that there is a TON to keep up on in this arena of the sport. Also, you have to maintain some perspective as well or you end up pissed off all the time and losing sleep over this stuff too.

Do what you can, when you can and appreciate the precious time you have when wheeling on these amazing trails we have!!

I'm back east right now. Talking to my Nieces SO yesterday, he told me he sold all his quads because there was no where left ride within easy driving distance from him. :frown:

We even had a hard time finding a place to stop for a picnic yesterday finally went into a private campground and the guy let us use a table for a while. "As long as it's only for a half hour or so." WTF? We were by a beautiful lake with all the trees in full color and there wasn't a single pull out, state or federal rec area.

I hope to God we are never like that out west.

BTW...

I also submitted our club membership to BRC today!! So that's a positive move for the club.

Living here in Nevada spoils us, from the public lands perspective, I'll tell ya! Even states like Wyoming, where you'd assume there would be big tracts of public accessible tracts of land, are more like the mid-western states than Nevada/Oregon/Utah.

We need to protect our access! Too bad the State of Nevada hasn't recognized what a potential tourist revenue stream could be had by leveraging our public lands access!

Did anyone go to this meeting last night? Sorry I couldn't make it last night...will try for the next though.

I couldn't make that one either, but I'm planning on the next one at the Carson valley inn in minden.
I'll be leaving right from work.

BRC Action Alert: Carson City

Related...sorta.

This is another current and controversial open land/open trails issue: I just received this from the BRC.

ACTION ALERT

In 1999 Carson City voters passed Q18, a ballot measure to add .25% of 1 cent to the sales tax for "open recreation". It was to purchase land and use existing open space for view corridors, ball fields, and to encourage trails. Nowhere in the ballot wording does it say anything about closing motorized access to existing Carson City/County motorized trails. Also nowhere in the ballot measure wording does it mention "PASSIVE RECREATION". The term passive recreation comes up in the paragraph written as the argument in favor of the measure. NOT IN THE MEASURE WORDING ITSELF.

Now the Open Space Committee is trying to close a huge amount of existing motorized routes in the Carson City/County open space areas. This includes Prison Hills, the area between Deer Run Rd and Mound House, the wooded area between the BLM office and the river on Deer Run Rd, BLM access areas near Mexican Dam, Kings Canyon Rd., Ash Canyon Rd., and more.

This Open Space Committee is made up of non-motorized recreation people, and they are trying hard to push their "passive recreation/non-motorized" agenda on the County Board. So far they have been meeting at poorly announced, I hate to say but will, almost semi secret meetings, with little to no opposing viewpoints. So the Board thinks that this is the wishes of all the local residents.

So if any of you think this is wrong, your (possibly) only chance to stand up and inform them of that, is at an upcoming meeting.
The meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 15 at 6:00 pm. The meeting will be held in the Sierra Room in the Community Center. You will be allowed to give public comment during this meeting.
The address is 851 East Williams St ( Carson Community Center corner of Hwy 50 and Roop).

THIS MEETING NEEDS TO BE PACKED WITH MOTORIZED RECREATION PEOPLE!!!!!!!
The Board needs to know that responsible motorized recreation is a valid use of open space and fits the ballot measure intent.

See you there. Monday, October 15, 2012 6:00pm
