Automatic 87 hj60. ..has anyone else dealt with an intermittent neautral safety switch problem. If so how did you fix it? Took the gear lever apart and couldn't see anything obvious.

I've had the same thing going on intermittently for as long as I've had the truck ('87 HJ60)...it happens more often in the winter for me, so I've surmised it is a sticking/dirty switch. I just put my foot on the brake and give the shifter a little wiggle while turning the key to start.
Not a fix, but it always works.
When I pull the engine this spring, that's on the list of fixes to attend to before re-installation in its new home
My old man bypassed the switch on an old mazda 626.
Long story short, it started in reverse and went right through the garage door.
