Does anyone out there have any experience changing these or at least any info on how to tell if it needs to be replaced? I've got a couple of threads going regarding a starting issue with my 89 fj62. symptoms: intermittant starting issues. key turns, lights and all stay on but no turn over. It's a new starter, think i got all of the ground cables cleaned and new ignition switch. slowly moving down the list but don't want to spend too much on things that don't need to be replaced. want to check the nss and according to the haynes, it looks pretty easy to check....almost too easy. what do i need to do?
thanks, ryan

I am not in front of my FSM but I think the process is pretty simple. I have an H55 with my 3Fe and I just by-pass the NSS with a jumper wire because I have no auto tranny (or NSS). Maybe you can run like for a while remembering to only start in neutral or park to see if your problem doesn't stop. Just an idea.

It's very easy to remove. Before you buy a repplacement, clean the one you have.

It is located on the passenger side of the tranny. One nut and it is off. Three or four screws and you'll have it opened up. Inside you will find a bunch of gunk. Clean the gunk out (break cleaner of electronics cleaner works well). Put dielectric grease on the enternal contacts and reassemble. Button her up and install. If you have the grease and cleaner you can have this done in an hour first time trying.

You will need to note the rotation of the switch on the shaft and may need to make an adjustment after it first goes on. If not lined up correctly, your back-up lights won't work and the truck will not start in neutral. No biggy and easy to readjust.

One thing though; there are some parts that want to jump out when you open it. No biggy, just open it in a clean area so you can find them.
