Hi my friends, after years of driving I got all clear coat peel off from the frontend of my LC100 2004, so I try to take care of it and I went to Maaco, since their offer is most cost-effective, they are talking about 3000 to paint the whole car, and they said if I ask for just do panels will be even more expensive. So here is the deal, the guy of Maaco told me since our LC have "Clad molding/side body belts", so there are two options:
1. They don't want to remove it since they have risk of breaking things, and if they paint in this way, there is no warranty for me, even the paint failed the second day I still will be on my own.
2. I can remove it by myself and get a warranty.
During the bargaining of this thing, I feel very bad about how they deal with things, I am scare to hand my lc100 to them now...
So my question is,
should I even go with Macco for a whole car painting? If I go for it, does the warranty or the clad molding removal matter?

If your plans are to use this truck on trails, then I guess a Maaco paint job would be an option, but I agree with @GTV , they're super cheap for a reason.

In 2018 I researched getting my UZJ100 painted (same issue, peeling clearcoat everywhere, plus dings/dents) here in Texas and I couldn't get any reputable shop to quote me less than $10K. That was 7 years ago! I ended up having a friend of mine paint in Idaho and it was way cheaper to drive it up there than it use a shop here. I just couldn't justify a $10K+ paint job on truck that sees regular trail use.

Also, on the cladding/trim. I ended up deleting it when the truck got painted, one of the best decisions I ever made.

Unfortunately you can't do much besides getting a quality repaint, which Maaco is not.

Really the best you can do is try to maintain the quality of paint you have at this moment and prevent it from getting worse. Keep it washed, polish and make sure a coat of wax is on at all times. Wax 4 times per year at a minimum (once per season).

So it's fenders and hood? Why not take it off, start preparing a bit by yourself and drop it off at a paint shop?!?

As others have said, $3k for a "complete" paint job is crazy cheap... Any other place in the US will quote 10K or more (I got a quote for 25 for my 60).

The supplies alone for good quality automotive paint will be $2k.

If you're in social, take it down to Tijuana.. There are supposedly reputable shops down there doing really cheap work. Search Mud.. I think there was a thread in the 60 forum.

yes, two front doors, two front fenders and hood. I actually try to find some one can paint just these parts for me, since that damn Macco try to push me to paint the whole car...

No for trail, I just drive it in the town, and really love this car and can not stand to see she got peeled clear coat everywhere, I just don't understand why Maaco will charge me more if I only do fenders, bumpers and hood than the whole car~
