NOOOO, no work type help.
The lil Woman and I are gonna do a lil camp trip next weekend with the Tacoma. Just to get away for a bit...
She wants to be by a river, or a lake (Gunner is going with).
We were thinking about the Markleeville/ blue lakes area, or maybe even on the 50 side of Strawberry.
Though Ive been to each place numerous times, I dont quite recall what camping there is to be had.
Id really like to find a spot NEXT to the Carson river somewhere (Not Barney Riley cuz Im not taking the cruizer).
This will be our first (of hopefully many) outing together ALONE, so Id really like to find some place nice.

You all are extremely savvy with secluded spots...I was hoping that someone could gimme some good suggestions.

Im really looking forward to this! Been trying to get her OUT all summer.

Thanks,

Keith

Keith,
The places I know are farther drives...like 3-4 hours away. And I haven't spent anytime really on Hwy 50. Maybe Rusty, Dylan or Andy Pollock knows of a place on the West slope of the Sierra.

There are some primitive sites on the west side of the road in Hope Valley as you head to Deer Valley from the north. We use to camp in that area a lot. You aren't right on the river but it's a sort walk.
There is a developed camp ground just after you pass through Markleeville that has sites right on the river.

If I think of more places I'll post them up.

Thanks gents!
I recall seeing a bunch of potential camp sites on the river past Markleeville as if you were heading up to Hermit Valley, but what I DONT know if theyre ACTUAL places to camp.
Im really excited about taking the "Taco"! It may sound crazy, but the prospect of not worring so much about what and HOW to pack is very appealing. With the Crusier, Im constantly evaluating what I NEED, what I can leave, tools, fluids, parts etc. that It really is a LOT of work when all is said and done. When actually 4 wheeling and camping in between, I get REALLY anal about having things in their place while also trying to keep the weight down (as if it matters at this point).
I guess what Im saying is that Ill have a little more freedom for luxury gear (coffee pot, queen size bed, stove AND grill) and the ability to just throw it all in and roll.
Plus...Im happy to get the wife along and the dog as a bonus!

I was thinking about this last night and came up with a few more options.

If you head out I-80 and turn onto HWY20 you will find a bunch of campgrounds.
Spalding Lake is not far past the exit from I-80, it's a very pretty little PG&E campground.
We saw a few more lower down the mountain that looked nice.

Another area, if you want a less developed site, is Smoke Creek. Once you turn off the main road that goes to Gerlach there are a bunch of spur roads that go down to undeveloped camp sites under the cotton woods along the creek. Let me know if you are interested I can give you pretty good directions.

In the Smith Valley area you can go to Desert Creek. It's a pretty little stream high in the Sweet Water range.

The nice thing is at this time of year you can wing it and still stand a good chance of scoring a great camping spot.

The only negative on Smoke Creek or similar in NN right now is the darn dust. Buddy o'mine that was pronghorn hunting relayed to me the lower flat roads are DEEP micro dust right now. We need rain!

Looking like its gonna be a bit CHILLY at night on Sat.
Im thinking were gonna stick with the plan of heading down Markleeville way. I really wanted to take :princess: out that direction. I love going down there, and I think that she will really appreciate that area as well.
Weve got all day to kind cruiz and explore.

Thanks for the recommendations.
