The Carmax runner is in.

I have the price worked out on the Sparks runner.

I have financing worked out for either.

I have my Camry sold.

Test driving the Sparks rig in the morning.

Don't you guys think its worth paying a $2000 premium to get a 65,000 mile Certified rig from Sparks that was a one owner rig rather than a 98,000 high mileage multiple owner rig bought at an auction by Carmax?

Jeremy

YES! We got the tundra with the certified at 13,000 miles....we thought it was worth it!

I would take which was the MORE mechanically sound of the two and that has been taken care of the best more than mileage....thats just me. Rather have 150k of well maintained vehicle than 50k of rental car and no oil changes.

I shy away from Carmax. I had a very bad experience at the Carmax in Greenville - ended with me walking out b/c I didn't want to beat the crap out of the little Napoleon-complex manager who literally tried to start a physical fight. Corporate got a call on that one and I got my deposit back. The manager and sales person outright lied on multiple occasions and misrepresented a vehicle. When I called them on it it got ugly - quick (was quite comical to have 'shorty' trying to get in my face when I was as calm as could be - he didn't like me laughing at him in front of his employees or when I pulled out pepper spray and told him to stop touching me.)

I drove 1/2 a mile up the road and bought a brand new Jetta from the VW dealership immediately after. Carmax had the audacity to call my cell an hour later and try to get me to come back - I told them I had just bought a new car from their competition - then the sales man started cocking an attitude, then I think he cried - tried all the emotions to get me back - was pathetic. I won't go back to Carmax.

Carmax (at least when I was there) puts blue book prices on their vehicles (higher) but quotes black book (lower) on trade ins. I called them on that too - they said the black book prices were more accurate so they used them on trade ins - "but why do you use blue book on new cars then?" <<crickets>>

$2k for a much lower mileage, certified vehicle from a dealership you have a relationship with is probably worth it.

Well, unless I can get my seats installed in the 40 real soon I am now huffing it.

I sold my Camry, and found the Tacoma in question and the 4runner at Sparks. I passed on the Tacoma for a few days to check out the car at Sparks. After a detail lookover and a test drive I wasn't as excited about this particular vehicle. I decided to pass on it this morning, called the Chevy place that had the Tacoma and told them I would pick it up this evening and it is gone.:meh:

The 4runner was certified, and had low miles, however certified doesn't exactly guarantee well maintained. The vehicle had multiple scratches on the body in a lot of places. I was fine with the scratches, but it was excessive for a 60,000 mile vehicle. Then the rear arm rest was broken and was not fixed before it was placed on the lot. Also a thorough look at the Carfax revealed that it was a lease vehicle and not the first record of maintenance. I was a little worried with the combination of all 3 things, and I felt like there should have been a record somewhere of atleast one oil change during it's life.

So I am now on the search for a vehicle. The wife wants me to get a Tacoma like the first one I found, so we will see what I can find in the next week, otherwise I will find something when I get back from Cali in a month.

Let me know if you guys find any nice dbl cabs with 4wd under $20,000.

Thanks,

Jeremy
