Hey team,

Here is where I am. I have a lot of maintenance that just decided it needed looking at. In the process, I realized that my Tree is missing the front skid plate and some fasteners related. I never had it and, ebarrasingly, never noticed until I started googling my issues.
  • What has the team done with their skid plates? is there an inexpensive version out there for a 2014 Sequoia that's just a grocery getting?

What got me under there is a coolant leak and that seems to be pointing me to the "Valley" leak. I've called two places and one wants to do a pressure test and the other said that a pressure test could cause other issues if they don't know what they are doing. However, the second guy, Greer Automotive in Atlanta, said it could be an issue with a cracked intake manifold because they are plastic. Patrick Greer has
  • What do you all think about pressure tests?
  • Has anyone here had to have their intake manifold replaced because they cracked?

Skid plate...if you really want one just get a salvage unit...shop around.

Pressure test....Patrick sounds like a fool if he thinks it is anything to do with a cracked intake. Only coolant hose on the intake that I can recall off the top of my head is at the throttle body. The heat exchanger in the valley is fairly common. So is the water pump or the Radiator. A pressure test is how they identify a coolant system leak. They're not pumping it up to some crazy pressure, they pump it to a low PSI and see if it leaks down or pushes more coolant out. Go with the first shop.

I ended up taking this to the dealership. Their prices weren’t far off from what I’d seen online and they could confirm they would have it done by a specific date. Rick Hendrick Toyota of Sandy Springs Georgia came recommended so I took it there and I've been happy with their responsiveness and communication.

They recommended a new valley plate because they've seen some warp when reused. That added about ~$400 to the cost. So for just the Valley Plate replacement this is ~$2000. Having them replace the PCV while they are in there and also testing the sparkplugs and replacing what is needed.

@Proven Wise decision not to have the other turd do it, however, I think they may be hosing you on parts at the stealership.

Depending on which exchanger they're using, one is a little over $50 more but neither is remotely close to the $400. They're already removing, cleaning and resealing so adding the part in there doesn't add to cost. I'd have a conversation with the service manager.
