Friends Its time for me to get rid of the Tundra. I took it into different dealerships to get a Quote and I've gotten offers from $18k to $20k offers. I've spent a littler over $30k in upgrades. Should I just trade it in or part out first and recover a bit more money.

Hey man, hope it’s going for a good reason. It all depends on how much you value your time. Also if you kept your stock parts. Do you have a place to store them until the parts sell?

If you spent 30k you’ll be lucky to get 10k back. Thats after tons of headaches, flakes, low ballers, no showers, etc.

If it were me, and I didn’t need the money, I would take a few of the higher cost, easier to sell items off, drop the vehicle off at a dealer. Or sell private party for more $. But it might take a while to sell, and you have to deal with people.

Dealerships are looking at MMR (Manheim Market Resale - wholesale auction) numbers when calculating trade in numbers and a highly modified car is likely going to result in them having to do more to sell it. They won't really value the mods and the majority of "regular" truck buyers won't either so JonChimpo (great username) here I think is on the money.

You can try to sell it on some enthusiast websites with the mods and see if you can get some extra bucks for it and then if no bites take the racks and steps and whatever else off that would be easiest to sell quickly to recoup some money and drop it off for a trade in.

What are you replacing it with?

Sterling McCall Toyota offered me $19,000 (including trade-in credit and tax savings) toward a new Tundra Capstone arriving July 29th.

Honestly, that felt like a slap in the face — especially since they have the same model truck on their lot listed at $23,995. It’s clear they’re trying to flip it for a quick profit.

Rather than hand it over to a dealership that doesn’t appreciate what’s been put into it, I’d much rather see it go to an enthusiast who truly values the upgrades and care that went into this truck.

Thanks to everyone who’s helped along the way.

You’re buying a truck from them? Then I would tell them I want more for my trade, or I want 10% off MSRP on the new vehicle. Their choice. You’ll find a dealer that wants to make a dead. Tundras are not a rare vehicle.
