Finally got most of the work done on the frame of my 75 FJ40 and now I'm off to the cowl. Only repair that needs to be done is where a tub would bolt on to the cowl. The bracket bolting the cowl to the frame on the driver side is completly gone and the one on the passenger side is pretty ruff.

What I'm hoping to get is similar pictures of a tub in good shape so that I at least have a visual reference when doing the repairs.

Also if someone could take a few measurments (see pics below) of the bottom of the door stops both drive and passenger side to the bottom of the post and to the center of the bolt holding the cowl and the tub together, this would make this repair a little easier.

Thank you for the help

If you dont have pics and measurements by tomorrow pm me to remind me and I will do my best to supply. I would do it now but I am out of town....

dargreg, thanks for the pics. Would you have a close up shot of the driver side bracket (similar to the one you have of the passenger side above)?

If anybody out there has more pics, it would be greatly appreciated.

My mounts are shot too on the cowl Im fixing up. The new company Pacol sells the mounts but Im a cheap ass and going to make my own. Havent figured out how yet.

Im suprised that noone on here has pics of homemade replacements.

drivers side

I believe that is a picture of the drivers side, heres another one anyway, I have made my own before years ago ,i have to rack my brain,i think it was peice of 3 in box tubing 12 in. long cut 2 1/2 up one side lengthways and 3 in the other long side goes up the front of the cowel so the mount stays level. Then put the cowel on so the back mounts lined up and marked my holes. A bit of dickin around with shimes and such but it worked and was much stronger i thought. Remember just tack it cause it probably wont be in the right spot but once you get it on the frame you,ll have a good starting point. Good luck

Well i promised pics and I have some of under the tub but they are worthless because of the undercoating so I really dont think they will help but if you want them anyway pm me your email and I will send away...... I did take the measurement to the center of the bolt to the bottom of the oblong opening and it is exactly 12" and I dont know on the other measurement because it is not clear to me what you are after but if I put my tape against the bottom of the floor it is 14" exactly to the bottom of the oblong hole.... I have a bit of undercoating though on the floor so it is probably actually 14 1/16" to be exact. I did attach some pics of the side that you requested though

pinktaco, thank you for the Pacol link, hadn't seen that side yet. Like you I think I can fab something up at home for a lot less then what they are asking. If I was doing a full restoration for future resale maybe, but my 40 is going to be heavily modified by the time I'm done so I'm taking some liberties with some of the restoration.

dargreg, thanks for the extra pic. I'm sort of thinking along the same line of using some tubing the make the new supports.

4x4, thanks for the pics and dimensions. The second dimension i was looking for was to the bottom of the post (where the post meets the floor). For you explanation I think the 14" dim was what I was looking for.

Thanks fo the help guys.
