I’m de-racking my new-to-me 100, at least temporarily so I can refinish it. A few of the roof rack bolts are rusty and I want to replace them but I’m having a hell of a time finding the part numbers. It’s these:

The bolts with plastic sleeves that actually hold the rack to the roof. Nothing on partsouq or a simple web search. Anyone know the Toyota part numbers for these two bolt sizes?

@nakman is recommended and may be of some help.

I put temp bolts in with silicone when I refinished the roof rack parts.
That way I wasn’t worried about leaks while refinishing the roof rack parts.

I dunno about bolt part numbers though.

The mcguires plastic restore stuff didn’t last for long at all on the plastic towers.

I might try some of the Cerakote wipe products on the plastics if I do it again.

Bumping.

Amayama comes up with nothing when I enter my VIN - does not even show a roof rack in the parts list. When I back out of my VIN and just search for a 99 Land Cruiser, I see this:

That’s not the design of the bolts on my truck. Mine have m8 threads and a 14mm diameter shoulder, plus a rubber sleeve around part of the shoulder.

I don’t quite understand how these shoulder bolts work. At first, it seems like the rubber sleeve is supposed to keep water from getting down the length of the bolt and under the roof rack tower. But, if you look at the through-holes in the front and rear towers, one hole is round and the other is oval (to account for tolerance). So the oval hole is not sealed: if I removed the tower cover, I could pour water in, and it would drain out of the bottom of the tower.

Asking because I could just use m8 bolts with a 14mm nylon sleeve and some RTV? Or can the original bolts be sourced?

I had the same issue and was not successful trying to find replacement bolts.

Forum member: nakman sold me some slightly used ones. Maybe they have more.

Bump on this. I cannot find these ANYWHERE. Not even a part number.

Dropping this image below as the go-to adhesive for roof rack bolts. Lots of varieties of caulking, silicone, rtv, adhesive products on the market. This product is made to go underwater in boating applications. The 4000 variety stays pliable enough so it can be removed in the future if needed... After speaking with 3M on all of their options this is the best bet

As for your bolts, I can't remember what I did when installing my rack...Pretty sure I just threw the originals out and replaced with the appropriate sized bolt, is that not an option for you? The sleeve on the originals ( I THINK ) was intended to make a seal but someone will chime in if I'm wrong.

You could also just go buy a jug of your choice of rust-remover and let the bolts soak / de-rust but it still may not seal right again as-is

I think, my vote is to replace the bolts with appropriate size / pitch bolt along with the 3M product below

Appreciate the tip. I think the factory sealant was just a dab of RTV.

I can definitely fab up some new bolts with sleeves, but I thought I’d try to use the correct ones if possible. Their design is not for sealing since they fit through oblong holes in the rack. Water can flow right through, likely by design. Pretty sure the roof seal happens at the threads.

My guess is Toyota engineered these shoulder bolts to protect the plastic roof rack mounts from over tightening and cracking. I wouldn’t want to just throw regular ones on there and crank down on it.
