Need new AC compressor?

Friend of mine has a 2001 TLC with a bad AC compressor. Dealer quoted him $1400 to replace!!!!!

Seems a bit high to me.

Any experience out there.

The compressor is about $550. Have him check labor rates at some other shops.

I replaced the compressor in my '99. I bought the compressor and dryer from CruiserDan for about $525 and the local Toyota dealer did the work for about $300. So, yeah $1,400 is high.

Bought a new dryer and factory compressor on eBay for $195 shipped, that was on my 1996 but I would guess the same rules apply..
