Okay so it's getting closer to the cook off who is in?

I'm in, I can help buy some supplies and such, nothing extravagant though. I've got an ez-up I can bring, weber kettle grill.

Would really like to get some more folks involved. Hal, you in for this thing?

So far:

Matt
Matthew
Brian (if we can get the budget in line. I say we can)
Keith
French

My dad is going to give 200.00 to the cause. I had planned on paying the entry fee but due to recent events it's looking like I may not be able to. With the money I'm getting from my dad that'll cover meat, charcoal, wood, etc....

I have a weber, WSM, a large offset (I need a trailer to get it there), 2 ez-ups, plenty of coolers, and my prep table.

We will need a folding table or two to set up at the front for samples and what not.

So does that mean we're just short $100 registration fee?

Anyone around here have a utility trailer? I might have a line on one from my father lin law, potentially.

Pretty much or at least I think that's all we're short. There are things like aluminum pans, paper towels, etc... that will be needed but we should be able to use some of the meat money for that. I have a line on a trailer but with my LC being questionable at the moment I wanted to have a back up plan.

Oh yeah I forgot ice. We'll need ice.

I might be able to help with the trailer it's my dads but its in my possession. I also have a couple small folding tables.

So as this creeping closer and it is looking more like my BFB won't be in running order I guess a back up plan needs to be devised. If we want to use my small offset I will need to meet someone with a trailer to load it up and have it brought to Cahaba. I the WSM and a Kettle that will fit in the back of my daughters Jeep I believe and should have room for a couple of coolers. If we don't want to hassle with the offset and Keith brings his kettle we should be able to manage I believe.

Also I was planning on setting up Friday afternoon so that everything would be ready to rock and roll. Going to cook the butts overnight so that they are ready for when the doors open Saturday.

How many butts can be cooked on it?

Also when are you going up to the Mardi Krawl?

If French has a trailer, I can hitch it up and get it to your place to get the smoker if we want to go that route.

If we're good with Matt B's UDS and my Kettle, that works as well.

All of the above. :D

Honestly we can do just fine with the kettles, WSM, and Matt B's UDS so that is probably a better route to go.

8? 10? 12? I've never done more than 3 so I don't really know. it should do a lot with two racks in it. I am leaving on that Friday afternoon but can get it to you any time before then if you want to practice on it.

I will take you up on the offer and we can arrange a pick up/ drop off time.

Ok so now I've been offically conned into being a U10 softball coach with a game that Saturday morning. I can still help pick up the grills with the trailer on Friday and be around sporadically Saturday.

Nooooooooooo there goes the BBQ slaw.

I think I've worked out the grill situation by using Matt B's UDS. It has a similar capacity to my offset. We may need another team member to transport it though. It'll fit in the back of a Land Cruiser without any issue.

I will do a test fit of all my junk this weekend to make sure it will fit in the Jeep because I've never loaded it for anything like this. I don't perceive any problems but.....

Will that work with the rules? Or does it have to be prepped on site?

In sanctioned events the only thing that the prep rule applies to is meat unless there is a special contest for sides, desserts, etc...

donation

I spoke to a buddy of mine (he's a Heeper) that owns a Sara Lee franchise. He knows a lot of grocery store managers and is going to try and get us a donation of chicken or at least a break on the price. I will update when I know if he can help out our cause.

Also, I need to know what my part of the cost shakes out to. I plan on being involved in the whole process, so just delegate some responsibility my way. I may be able to wrangle(er) some bread out of my buddy if we are gonna serve any.
(How did y'all like the way I threw in that Jeep reference?)
