Need more help narrowing down vibration

Yup, I'm hauling another thread back up from days gone by. I've been getting a wierd vibration/grumbling while accelerating through the 1600-1800 rpm range. I dug through a bunch of driveshaft threads and found the proper phasing for front and rear shafts (out-of-phase, in-phase, respectively).

After climbing around under my truck today I found that the rear shaft is 45* out of phase. It's not at 0* or at 90*, but smack dab between the two. Somebody was not paying attention.

My question is, can I simply pull the shaft off, realign it in-phase and stick it back under there? My spidey sense says no, but I might be overthinking things tonight.

Thanks

96r50, what did you end up doing? i'm in the same boat and wondering if I can just change it via the slip yoke or if I need to pull the caps, rotate the joint, and reinstall them.

I bought new Toyota u-joints, pulled the shaft off and had it rebuilt and balanced by a driveline shop in town. The rebuild and balance (and paint!) was only $20.
