I am looking for input on a 2002 4Runner Ltd I just bought for my wife to drive. This car is a 2002 4Runner Limited. V6, auto 2WD, 62k on the clock. The car looks pretty clean, and well kept. Dealer said a woman drove it new, and traded to them for a GMC SUV of some kind. It runs well, tracks well, has adequate power and handling.

What I'm looking for here are:

Overall impressions from those who have owned one.
Gas mileage expectations
Service intervals
Recommended oil

Probably get a more informed crowd at Yotatech.com, they deal with mostly 4runners.

thanks biff

I love ours ( 4 wheel drive though ) Mileage in the low 20's on highway, ride is great, nice and quiet, I follow the manual for intervals and I use Rotella Synthetic 5-40 at 8000 mile change, plugs every 15000 or so. Everything else is normal. Fantastic vehicle in all regerds. You will love it .

For our 1999 Limited 4wd w/5VZE-FE 3.4L V-6:
- low 20s highway/ ~19 city
- 60k on timing belt, also replaced water pump @ 120k due to
coolant seepage noticed while replacing timing belt.
- I am using M1 0w-40 & OEM filter

I have one in the 4WD LTD. This is my DD and I just love it! Very solid, dependable, and easy to drive/park. I think the present generation 4runner
is not nearly as handsome as this model. Buy it!!
22mpg hwy/17 city
mobil 1 every 7500 miles

can not go wrong with 3rd generation

I also have a Daily Driver 1999 4Runner-

In my humble opinion-you can not go wrong with any 4Runner-particularly the 1996-2002 generation 3's.

So as a 2002 yours would be the final year for Gen3.

Most of us are still wondering what was wrong with that body style-but nonetheless 2003- forward would be 4th Gen.

The V6 is powerful enough or can be easily enhanced. I encourage you to also look into T4R forum which is strictly 4Runners. The mileage figures reported are right in the ballpark depending on heaviness of the drivers foot.

To confirm your good fortune in finding this model-view Consumer Reports-they love Toyotas in general and specifically the 4Runner.;p

not knowing much bout the 4runners...will search the forums listed above

are they as well made as the LC's? i came across a nice 1 owner 99 4runner ltd with 115k miles for bout 10k$...seems to be a decent price...any thoughts what to look for? or pricing? it is a private seller

It seems to be of the same quality construction, but it is not heavy and overbuilt like our 80 series Cruiser. Thus the interior noise and sense of isolation from the road is not as great as with the cruiser.

That price sounds ok if it is in good condition or better.

I know several people who have had or have 4Runners - they pretty much all say the same thing (for late models, 98 and up) - a trouble free vehicle. Mind you none of these people wheel much.
