I have purchased a new wiring kit form C-Dan and need help getting the Light out. I have removed the two screws form the side of the light, and it swings out a bit but it is captured on the finder somehow. I have gently pulled on it and nothing. I tried to remove the other side just to see if it was any easer. Nope. Nada. Do I just need to pry against the fender and light with a screwdriver? I do not want to break the light assy. So any quick response would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

No, actually it’s in a box and I need to hook it up. The old one is shagged. The new one is not the same.

Major thread revival here but I'm having the same problem. Remove the 2 screws, light hinges out a bit but other than that it's stuck. I've taken enough stuff apart over the years to know that if I pull or pry any harder, something is going to break. What am I missing here on tail light removal?

If on the right side, take screws out and place your right hand on right side (fender) of light for support, and use base of left hand and knock light out to side (motion parallel to tailgate).

Taillight held in with tension fittings on rear quarter panel.

If left side do opposite.

This helps immensely. I would never have guessed that it was set up this way. Seems like a pretty terrible design, where a swing-out style housing with a couple of hook-like extensions molded into the plastic on the leading edge of the taillight would seem to provide more consistent holding force as well as be easier to work with and less prone to breakage.
