Gentlemen,

I'm a newbie and have very little knowledge on the transmission. I own a 1994 Land Cruiser 4.2L Diesel Turbo with 1HDT engine and A440 automatic Transmission. I have this car for almost three years now and in the last few weeks, I'm experiencing a weird situation. My idel speed is around 800 and when I shift to D drive, it would drop to around 550 which is ok. However, there's no problem when the car is running. The problem starts when I run into traffic or come to a stop light, the car would shake while on the D drive. If I switch it to Neutral, it would stop. It's been happening in the last few weeks. I changed the differential oil (both front and rear), transmission fluid (both transmission and transfer case). Still the same problem. Can somebody help me here? Is it the transmission or anything else? Hope it's not the transmission.
Appreciate help from you all.

You might ask this question in the International Forum. Yes our trucks look alike but we are mostly US Spec here, with little to no knowledge of the 4.2L Diesel Turbo in the LC.

That said, is the truck shaking b/c of the low idle?

It may be time for service work. Look to the air filter, fuel filter, valve adjsutment(12 valve engine or 24?). Do not know enough about the different models of engines so forgive me if I ask silly question. I think you have the 12 valve which may need valve adjust from time to time. Have you gotton some bad fuel? Any how it is usually the little things for idle that will get you. good luck robbie

Dear TX_TLC,

Thanks for referring to the International Forum. Didn't know. No, the idle did not drop, it was constantly at 550 rpm when shifted to D drive. Again, thank you. Really appreciate it.

Dear Powerderpig,

Thanks for the insight. Not at all sir, you've helped already. You are right, mine is a 12-valve. I've changed the air filter, fuel filter. The only thing I haven't done is the valve adjustment. I will do that and see what happens. Thanks very much.
