HEY GUYS,

I know I haven't met anyone in person so I'm thinking this might be a good way.

Next weekend will be a busy weekend for me starting the bodywork on the new 45v.

I have no mechanical ability (besides oil changes etc) and have very little bodywork experience. I anyone is interested in stopping by Duxbury and putting their 2 cents that would be great.

I haven't restored anything before much less a cruiser. I've owned plenty o them but always farmed it out. Everyone in yankee toys starts these very technical threads that I am lost on.

I'd love it if a couple people stopped by and gave me some advice or tips on where to start and products to use. I'd be forever grateful.

I know people are busy so I understand if people can't make it. I'm not looking for workers or free man-hours. I'd like to know where to spend my money wisely and what it needs in order of importance.

I reserved the weekend for the fall gathering 2007 for time off from work and family. Hopefully both will remember....

Thanks!
John

John,

I have little auto body work experience, but have recently been working on the tub of the 40. I can't say that body work is fun, but it can be gratifying.

Check out Eastwood for tools, supplies, and information:

http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemType=CATEGORY&itemID=503

Basic supplies/tools:
hammer & dolly set
plastic or metal based filler w/ hardener
putty
sanding blocks - variety of sizes
sanding rasp
sand paper - grits 80/200/320/500/600
high build primer
respirator
patience

There are others in YT with far more experience and should have good recommendations for techniques and tools.

Good luck on the LV. Nice truck!

Randy

hi, i have seen your posts around and your trucks for sale around. wasnt the LV for sale for a while too?

a good way to get people to your place is to bribe them with

pic a task for the day and go at it. for example, it may be a good idea to get some people to look at the truck and simply advise on what level restoration to go with. do you know what you want to do with it yet? a full resto? just do some minor body work and welding? them move onto painting? then suspension, brakes, tires, engine tune up?

then you can get the metal and body parts you need... then ask people to come and have a day of wrenching / welding.

i would love to see your truck and have some work to do on my own! who knows, maybe this weekend would be good.

oh and welcome:flipoff2: to the group

Did I mention I am a wine importer? I actually drink more beer than wine but anyone that shows up Saturday will get a free 1/2 case of vino!!!!!!!! Now that's bribery!

I felt bad asking people for help because I've never met anyone in YT and asking strangers for assistance isn't one of my strong points.

The LV just arrived and has never been for sale. I've sold a bunch of troopys before so you probably remember the blue one I brought in. This one is technically just a "v" since it is right hand drive.

I did the interior today. Sanded and primed the whole thing including the dash and roof. came out great.

I'll be under it all day tomorrow (weather permitting) I need to do the polyester putty skimcoat next but it needs to be 60 degrees forr that to set. Guess I'll be doing that next spring.

I live at 667 Union street in duxbury, ma if anyone gets a wild hair........

Oh, you were looking for help? I thought we could just show up and share advice and opinions....................... :D

Wish I could make it but my plate is full this weekend, yours would make only the third 45LV...............correction, the only 45V I'd ever seen in person.

The garage is always open. Thanks anyway. Advice or help would help either way.

Body stuff on hold for now. Interior panels to be done inside the house due to cold weather. Vinyl, glue, and scissors should do the trick!
