My son's 2004 4Runner has a bad head gasket and I was wondering if there's anyone in east Tennessee that would be good to do this repair besides the dealership. I called Pro Toyota in Knoxville but I thought there were on the high side. Everyone I've talked to said to go ahead and replace both head gaskets while you've got it torn down and Pro Toyota wants $2600. Just seems high to me. I was thinking it would be in the $1500 - $2000 range for an independent garage. He's fresh out of college and paying off student debt so he needs a deal..........and a good job.
Apparently this is a very common problem for the 2003 - 2006 4.0 V6. I don't why Toyota can't get the head gasket problem fixed.
