***(SOLVED)*** See the last post for description.

Here is the low down.

205k miles on the truck.

The truck has shifted perfectly for almost a year.
Now 2 days before I am supposed to leave to go to Colorado I start it up to leave work and it starts shifting funny.

It is like it just skips second gear and then does not want to down shift from OD.

It threw the P0758 code several times on the way home. (using my Scangauge II)

Anyone have any experience with this?

I would like to get this fixed tomorrow if at all possible.

Solenoid?

I took it to the transmission shop today and my own diagnosis was correct.

The P0758 is the Shift Solenoid No. 2

The symptoms are that the transmission will shift from 1st to OD.

Pretty simple fix if the transmission is still in good shape.

The guy said that if the pan is pretty clean when they lower it that they should be able to just replace the solenoids and do a flush and I will be back on the road.
:banana::banana:
When I was there the old guy that ran the shop said that this transmission is, one of if not, the best transmission ever built.

He said that the solenoid is the most common problem with them.

I will post agian once it is fixed and let you all know the details.

If that's the case, you may want to stop by and buy a lottery ticket on your way home.

Let us know. Dan.

Now I need your help (wiring diagram)

Just got back from vacation and got the cruiser back......

Good news and Bad news.

Good news is that the transmission shop tested my solenoinds and said they are fine.

They said that the pan looked good and it didn't have a bunch of shavings in it.

The bad news is now I have an electrical problem where it would seem that the solenoids are not receiving the signal.

DOES anyone have a wiring diagram for the transmission etc...????

Thanks,
Ben

Someone Help Please..?

Here is another tidbit....

About 24hrs before the problem started I had been messing with the fuse panel (inside). I unscrewed it and pulled it down to see what it looked like on the back to possibly add an accessory. I also rearranged the OBDII so i could leave my scanguage plugged in and still put the cover on.

My question is did I break a wire, cause a short, or what ever that would cause this problem.

I do not have the FSM and was wondering where the controller for the transmission gets its power?

Does anyone have a FSM in my area that I could look at? (NW Arkansas)

I am planning on buying one asap just need to get the truck back on the road! :steer:

Any and all help is greatly needed and appreciated!!!

rockcrawl,
I would check out a thread I started a good while back ago. That Engine Wiring Harness near the EGR can be a beast to check but take a look and see if the harness isn't touching the EGR. Even if it appears that it isn't doesn't mean it hasn't. I spent weeks troubleshooting this to only find the IDL wire to my TPS burned up. I jumped my own wire from the ECU to the TPS for a temp fix. Eventually I replaced the entire wiring harness. Link Below.

So it has been 6 months now and I would really like to start driving the cruiser again. It is still not shifting correctly. I have replaced the computer just in case i had shorted it out. That didn't fix the problem.

I wanted to bring this thread back to see if any of you gurus out there has any idea where to go from here?

My almost 3yr old boy cries when we take him out to the car because he want to ride in it instead of our other vehicle (2002 Subaru Outback LL Bean). I am not even kidding.

Did you ever try to replace the No. 2 solenoid? These can cause some weird issues; mine would start out in what seemed to be third gear from a stop. When I would get nearly up to speed, I could not down shift. Although I have a different year vehicle, the issue may be the same.

My thread is still on the front page, you may want to read through it and see if you have any similarities. Replacing the solenoids (2 on mine) was easy, and did fix the problem.

*#*#*#*(SOLUTION)*#*#*#*

Ok, after a long time of just not messing with it I have found a solution.

In the end I replaced all three solenoids and there was a short in a wire (through the firewall) between the ECU and the transmission.

I replaced the shift solenoids I and II first and that did not fix the problem.
The shop that did the work didn't even charge me because it didn't fix it!
They concluded that it was an electrical issue and sent me to a shop that specializes in electrical issues.

At the electrical shop they were able to track down a wire with high resistance and determined where the short was. After they did the bypass the electrical issues were gone.

When I drove it away it still had major (now different) shifting issues.

I decided to take it to the Toyota Dealer and they scanned the computers and said it was a solenoid (the only one i hadn't replaced yet) a few days later I get the truck back and everything works perfect!

If anyone has any questions about what happened, symptoms, tests, or more specific details feel free to contact me!

Thanks to everyone who chimed in to offer assistance.

Post it up now if you time; that way we all have the information, and in the future folks can go back and find it.

Glad you got it resolved, and thanks for giving closure to the thread.
