Hello and thank you for advising.

Just got a base 21 LC.
1) was going to switch OEM wheels to Fuel rebel 5 rims with 20 offset. Compared to OEM rims, do Fuel rims hold up in terms of strength?(sorry if that is a dumb question). This car is primarily for long road trips. no crazy off-road if
2) was going to switch 285/60/18 tires to Falken 285/65/18 tires. Do i have to worry about rubbing bc I am switching to 65 vs 60. I am not lifting the car
3) i live in phoenix. summers are brutal. is paint protection film worth it? I got a quote for 7000$ for the whole car. Or should i only get the hood done. One of the techs at the dealership told me that the film will turn yellow in a few years.

I appreciate your advice. Thank you

Welcome and congratulations!
  1. Check the stats on the wheel - that one is rated for 2500 lbs according to their site. Stock is 2512 lbs.

  2. No, that will not rub.
  3. I would not do 100%, have never done more than front end, some hood, mirrors and A Pillars. Eventually film may discolor.

Thank you for 2 and 3- in regards to 1: where can i find information for load on the OEM wheels.

I was thinking about doing the whole truck in PPF. Mainly for protection against damage from branches offroad. Didn’t bother me on my 2005, but know I’d be irritated on my 200.

I have like the PPF on my wife’s Q7. We did the entire front (hood, fenders, bumper, mirrors, and maybe headlights and grill. She has driven 30k highway miles with no issues, parking outside when she drives. It’s been 1.5 years.

my understanding is the yellowing doesn’t happen as much with the newer films, but not all are created equal. $7k sounds like a lot, but then again it’s a lot of truck.

personally, if not planning to off-road on trails with branches where pinstripes are an issue, I would skip it and just do the front. the one I bought had the film done at the dealership on the hood. I’m not crazy on the coverage as it leave the edges of the hood exposed, which seems crazy. on my wife’s car, they wrapped it around the edges, which gives much better coverage.

for PPF, my ‘21 came from the dealer with partial hood, mirrors, and a sliver for the fender. Wish they didn’t put any on as I’d rather have put that money towards my product of choice. As others have said, most dealers don’t wrap the PPF around edges.

I brought mine to a local shop to have the front bumper wrapped. It was $400 for XPEL on the bumper. Thought about having dealer crud removed, but will ultimately ride it out and switch to XPEL if/when it begins to deteriorate. XPEL has a 10 year warranty and is often recommended here by Eric Sarjeant.

This shows what you can cover on the LC. I’ve found that I can get XPEL installed for right around the listed “kit” prices.

I have my M5 fully covered with SunTek ppf. I love it!!! It is extreme pricy, but you never really have to worry about scratches. The film is hydrophobic. It washes so easily and always looks great. As far as discoloring, this is not the cheap 3M clearbra stuff from the early 2000's. Mine came with a 10 year warranty.

I have XPEL on the front, hood, front quarter panels.

Racing stripes never bothered me on our 80, but really notice them on the 200. Wish I had done all the way down the sides.

It is removable if it starts to discolor, so I’m not too worried on that front.

For $7k I'd put the $ in the bank and use it to repaint the truck if you still have it in 20 years
