Greetings,

Can anyone out there recommend a good shop in the bay area for axle work? I was hoping to drop off the 3rd member for rebuild/locker install. So far I haven't found anyone close with experience on fj40 axles.

Thanks,

Bigs

Ask cc93cruiser he just had a shop install an ARB locker in his third...
I believe the shop he took it to was in South SF

Try Rearend Specialties in Santa Clara. I had my locker done there and have been happy so far.

Gary installed power steering in my 40 in March. It is stout and drives perfectly straight, no more wandering. WOOHOO!
He's done a number of projects on my 40. Great work, great guy.

If you are in the North Bay, Gary Kardum, aka Mudrak, in Sonoma. There's also an LC shop in Gilroy with a good rep, can't recall the name, tho...

the landcruiser shop in gilroy is custom cruisers, ron is the owner and his shop does great work. right down the street from me so its convenient for me, annoying for him im sure, to answer my questions.:)

2 friends friend of mind had gears installed there a couple years ago, one had no problems

the other, they forgot to tighten the bearing caps on the carrier. once he dropped the third and brought it in they stopped saying "it's your fault" and did it right.

Gary at mudraks is great...But the guy always has a lot of work...You would have to get your work done on his schedule.. That is part of the reason I took my 3rd's to a differential shop..Talk to Bayshore Equipment in SSF...I have gotten gears installed in my 80 series and lockers on my 40 series...

Gary Kardum - M U D R A K is the man. But at this time of the season, expect to waite a long time before he can get to you.

If you want a turn key solution where you drop off the truck...Gary is the man...If you want to just drop off the third...Rear End Specialty in San Jose or Santa Clara is the one. They built up my FJ40 thirds with ARBs within a day with reasonalbe cost. Good luck.

Thanks!

Went with Rearend Specialties in SC. Good deal, guy there named Mike knows his stuff. ran my 73 through Rubicon last week without any issue.

Thanks again!
