Hey guys I have a 97 fjz80 that needs a good paint job. I live in Raleigh and didn't know if someone had some reccomendations.

I am looking for a total respray. The body is straight, a few dents here and there and a small amount of rust on the rear hatch. The truck is black and I want to keep it black. As much as I would like to think I'll take it to Moab, I think it is destined to be a mall cruiser.

At least for the next couple of years that is. I have a two week old and a three year old. I just got my rims blasted and powdercoated. I just want a topnotch paint job ata a fair price from someone who has taken pride in their work

true2forum on capital ( south west corner of brentwood road) has done really good work in the past for me.

How much do you think is fair for a full paint job with minimal body work? I have heard figures between 1k to 3k.

are you doing the prepwork?
sanding and removing trim and such?

I could see 3-5k not being unatainable but im afraid this may be an instance of you get what you pay for
sounds like 3 is a fair budget to aim for, do what you can on your part to make it cheaper

To be honest I painted it myself once already. I used mid grade paint, hvlp gun and a big ol husky compressor. It came out with a lot of orange peel (moisture in line or pressure too high) I got a bunch of compliments on it and it looked really cool. It looked like I rhinolined it. Then a buddy of mine convinced me to wetsand it and that didn't turn out well. Now I just want a good paint job. I can see PPG or high end paint being 1k by itself. I probably will not be doing any prep. Been there done that

If i was you i would do some prep to get the costs down. Yes i know first hand it is a pain, but a paint job is only as good as the prep job. Unless you are paying them to do a good job for prep, then you will get what you pay for.

Are you wanting base / clear or single stage ?

Any other suggestions as far as paint places? Obviously you get what you pay for, but anyone know any places that do good work at a good price?
