I'm looking over the internet at a 2000 L C with 58k in San Diego. Carfax says its a CA car but the current owner / dealer bought it at an auction so no service secords. Can anyone recommend a mechanic in San Diego, perferably near Point Loma, to inspect the vehicle?
Thanks

Koda,

I recomend the following mechanics in San Diego:

http://www.sdtruckshop.com/

or

http://www.sdtrux.com/

Both are independant Toyota truck repair facilities. I have had both shops work on my Toyota trucks and they are reputable.

Your other option would be the dealer. I do not recomend Kearny Mesa Toyota. They are terrible. You would be better off with Mossy Toyota in Pacific Beach.

All of these shops are relatively close to Point Loma.

Thanks Calamaridog, that's just what I needed.

I use Behr at Sport Utility Motorcars on Miramar Road. Mechanical Engineer, perfectionist, 4wd driveline expert. I suspect that for $300+/-, provided he has time, he'd pop over to Pt. Loma and provide a detailed report on the condition of the vehicle. If I were to buy a used vehicle in San Diego, no way I'd transact without someone like Behr giving it the once-over. 858-453-6234

I wouldn't hesitate to use the guy mobi-arc recommends either. I believe you will get a more thorough inspection from an independant dealer.

I've used http://www.sdtruckshop.com/ with my 94 LC, and they did a good job.

I think Toyota @ Kearny Mesa has good mechanics, but the services writers are pushed so hard that they try to do unecessary work.

The service writers at Toyota Poway seem more honest to me, but I've had quite a bit of "redo" work after they've worked on my vehicle.
