All of a sudden, I need a fiberglass top cap for my hardtop. Mine has broken bolts in every single hole, and I'm not sure it's worth trying to drill them all out.

Anybody got a spare cap, or know somebody who wants to get rid of one? This is a 1980-ish top on an '82 40 series: ambulance doors, wiper motor down low, and all that good stuff.

Thanks!

Alex

Every single hole! Dude that sucks. Are they all rusted in? Id try to drill them all out with some super penetrating oil.

Yep, all rusted in. My soft top has no working zippers left, so I really need a hardtop on this beastie for the winter. It's getting pretty cold in there! It would take me forever to drill out all these bolts (broke 2 ez-outs and a couple drills yesterday trying!), so I'd rather pay for a good cap. :frown:

Yeah, going to try helicoil-type things instead, to keep using the M6 hardware. If/when that doesn't work, I'll go up a size. :)

Just to update in case anyone cares... I drilled and used helicoils. It worked in all but a couple holes, so I now have a functional hardtop. Amazing how much better the heaters work without all those gaping busted-zipper holes in the soft top. ;)

I'll bet it is quieter also ;) Mine probably lost 10dB when I put on the top.
