Hey All. Need a couple odd dim's.

Boring back story:
We have a '97 FZJ80 already that's a little built up and fun. We also have a Great Dane who goes almost everywhere with us. Wife wants a newer, more shiny SUV so she can take the dog places when I have the 80. She doesn't want a 200 series (my original vote to be honest)--says they're too big. I'm now checking out the GX460, which is about the same size as my 80-series and wife likes them.

The two questions I have that are dog-related dimension questions:

1. What's the distance between the rear edge of the cargo area floor and the rear gate's upper weatherstrip. Upper opening edge to cargo floor edge? (Looks like the rear cargo door opening may be shorter than our 80?)

2. What's the distance from street or driveway to rear cargo area floor? (Looks like it might be a higher jump for a dog, plus no tailgate.)

Many thanks if someone has or doesn't mind sharing these two measurements!

Thought I'd follow up on this post since we did end up getting a GX460. Here are the rear cargo area dimensions of the GX460 vs. FZJ80

Rear Cargo Opening Width
GX460 - 45.5"
FZJ80 - 51.5"
Rear Cargo Opening Height
GX460 - 35"
FZJ80 - 39"
Cargo Area Floor to Ceiling Height
GX460 - 36"
FZJ80 - 42.5"
Cargo Floor Width (measured between wheel wells)
GX460 - 43"
FZJ80 - 44"
Cargo Floor Length (from rear door to second row seats)
GX460 - 36.5 to 41" (adjustable seats)
FZJ80 - 44"

Unfortunately the seats that fold into the floor on the GX460 takes up a ton of room. Wish they were still hanging so they'd be easier to remove.

I wonder what the dims are in comparison to a 470?

You mean GX460 to GX470? I have a couple buddies with GX470's and the main difference right off the top is that the 470's have about 5" more distance between cargo floor and ceiling because they don't have the folding seats like the 460's do.

Most of the other dim's will be the same..

Yes, 470 to 460. Great to know man thanks.

Good info. I guess it makes sense because the GX platform is kind of a 3/4 sized Cruiser right?

Funny about your 200 series pick. I had the same desire but we went new 4runner. No regrets, but a 200, well maybe someday.

460 is a fine rig anyway.

Nice. We looked at 4runners too. Crazy how vehicle models grow over time. Today's 4runner is basically the size of an 80 series.

We love the 200 series but its size presented some inconveniences for us. We wanted our new SUV to have similar dimensions to our 80 which is the perfect size for us.

To me, the GX460 is sort of like an 80 series-sized 200 series. We'll enjoy it. Enjoy your 4runner!

Could someone measure the cargo floor length on the GX460 from rear door to folded second row seats?

Hopefully it is close to the 72" my wife's 5 series wagon has.

Measure at what point when the seats are folded? The back of the front seats, the underside of the second row seats where they stow when folded forward, or at the hinge area of the second row seat backs when folded flat instead of tumbled up?
