Kinda wack that you should post tonight:
1. I'm chatting online right now w/ a fellow cyclist in portland who co-founded Ozark Off-Road Cyclists in Fayetteville. ...talking about racing at Lake Leatherwood.
2. I believe it was your post that lead me to KUAT in the first place. ...this rep gig started from a conversation on why I couldn't find their product here in the supposed 'cycling capitol of the US.'
3. I bought my first LC in your former stomping grounds - or at least pretty damn close. ....I'd have to dig out the paperwork, but I think it was Lamar, MO. ...in July of '00 on my way to AR for a race.
4. Immediately after getting my new rig back to KC, Todd Andrews and Erik Christiansen introduced me to wrenching by dragging me to the local U-Pull It for mini-truck outers. My first wheelin trip ever was the weekend they formed TAC.

freakin small world.

.btw, to answer your question. no, not yet. ...hoping to drag them out here for MTB Oregon this summer.

TCB,

I'm a manufacturer's rep and primarily sell to bike shops. That said, I'm trying to build brand awareness of this new company by offering discounted pricing to cycling & outdoor related clubs in the Pac NW. I'm extending this to MUD bc the people here have been good to me over the years and any chance I get, I'd like to pay that back.

The MSRP on the Alpha & Beta racks is $350 & $250 respectively. The new NV tray rack w/ the integral work stand is coming out this summer. ....depending on your timeline, you might want to wait for that one. If there's enough interest - say a batch of 10 or so - I think I can swing 20% off MSRP plus shipping.

Where exactly is your swinging vine?

I'm going to be out in the woods playing hard for the next few days, but I'll be back online next Tuesday night .

Cheers,

.matthew

My vine is about as far away from the Pac NW as you can get and still be in the Conus...

Tray style is going to be the direction I go with this one.... the :princess: rides a comfort/hybrid with no top tube... so I have to take it apart and cram it in the back of the 80 anytime we go anywhere.

I think the NV design looks pretty sweet and if is as crazy light as what the alpha/beta appear to be, even better! What would be the cost of the NV rack? 20% sounds tempting...

beyond tempting...I'm in need of a bike rack and the Beta model looks perfect :)

I bought a Yakima bike rack with the intention of using it on the Pig. My rear bumper/tire carrier sticks out too far to use it :whoops:

Do these have more length to reach into the receiver?

Woody / Nat - I'll put my Alpha on tonight and measure the distance from the receiver out to the mast.

If there's a need for extensions, I can go have a chat w/ Mark Hawley and see if he'd be interested in a new product line. I like the idea of a raised extension that keep tray racks from dragging. I don't wheel w/ the rack on, but I do go bouncing down a dirt road or two to get to remote camping spots.

6.5 / 14 / 16 on my uzj100

6.5" from the trailing edge of the hitch receiver (w/ the rack and locking pin installed) to the leading edge of the rack mast.

14" from the same point of the hitch to the leading edge of the first bike cradle.

16" from the bulge of the sombrero logo to the leading edge of the first bike cradle.

The 35x12.50 on my 40 sticks out 14" from the body, so depending on how I mount a new 2" receiver, It will either be a tight fit or I may lose the ability to carry the inside bike. Nat / Woody, what size meat are you running?

Hopefully, I can save you guys enough coin on the racks that a hitch extension won't break the bank.

Hope that helps,

.matthew

that'll work for mine....I use a bolt-on hitch on the FZJ80 and the tire is tucked in pretty well....should clear easily (or I can make my own extension ;) )

We built our own racks which seem to accomidate just about any type bike, super basic and very strong. I fact we could put 5 downhill bikes on it at around 50 pounds each.

I will take a picture later and post up.

Any idea when the NV design will be available? Also, i have the same issue most folks with the rear tire carrier being too far out to use hitch mount racks. I was thinking about taking my yakima rack and having it fabbed so it will clear but have been leaning towards getting a NV design style rack (now that i have FS bikes with weird top tubes). Any chance those racks will be out before July? Heading out to the moab with the bikes for the 4th of july holiday!

Radd, please share. As I'm getting involved w/ Kuat, I'm finding more and more homebrew companies making cool gear.

Dixie, I hear you. I'm drooling over the NV as well, and I want it now! I'm hearing that it might not be ready until the end of summer, but I'll keep you in the loop if its released sooner. I understand the clearance issues and will have to deal with them myself on my 40. I'm thinking about having an elevated extension fabbed up - hmmm, I wonder if there'd be a market for this here? - to improve both clearance and departure angle.

....not that we should be wheelin w/ bikes hanging off the back. Hell, most of our bikes are prob worth more than our cruisers.

Hey mcewan, any news on the release of the NV? I need a hitch rack and I'll be on the west coast (of Canada) this summer.

No news yet. I'm expecting to have an early model to display at the expo for Mountain Bike Oregon in July, but don't think the NV will be available to the public until September.

If you need a rack now and could get by with an Alpha or Beta model for a couple months, I could likely get you a sweet deal on a 'seconds' unit and you should be able to break even when you go to pick up the NV. Ping me direct if you're interested.

Cheers,
.matthew
