I am looking for some fun camping destiations in North Carolina. Ideally I would drive in and camp the night and then head out. I have a stock 1991 FJ80, so it can't be too rugged. I am open to a two or three hour drive, but I can't get too far because it'll be an after work thing. I got two boy's that think my truck is whimpy so, I wanna show them it's tough.

Where are you in NC?

Uhwarrie National Forest has good camping... so does Tellico.

I'm in Raleigh... drop me a line.

Murphy's just outside Tellico....heard good things, caters to wheelers....cross the border (TN) and anything along the creek is beautiful..

I am familiar with eastern Tenn. Where is Murphy's?

Are you looking to wheel or just camp? If just camp, the sites along Curtis Creek outside Old Fort are nice. Near Mount Mitchell and the Parkway as well. Good fishing. Might call though, heard the flood raged through there.

Here's where Murphy was last time I looked.

Camping

I am in Salisbury, between Greensboro and Charlotte. I'm about 45 Miles NE of Uwharrie

Uhwarrie National Forest, good for camping and wheeling, lake for fishing etc, nice variety of trails.
State park near sprarta has nice camping hiking, gravel roads don't remember trails,
Lots around NW corner of South Carolina. for good camping wheeling.

you are pretty close to brown mountian too. Some of the most fun i have to to hop on an old logging road up in the mountains with my GPS. See where it takes me.
