Can anyone recommend a good camping spot in the NC mountains maybe around Pisgah NF? Ashville or Boone? Taking the wife and kids so not too remote.

I used to camp all the time at the davidson river campground just south of Asheville. Great fly fishing, great hiking trails. Clean campground and at the base of the parkway. So lots of activities and things to see for the family.
PM me with your requirements and I can point you in the right direction. I live in Pisgah Forest less than 5 miles from Davidson River Campground and have a number of more-remote-but-not-miles-from-civilization spots if you want to get away from crowds.

If you are willing to hike in a bit, checkout shining rock area. It borders Pisgah on the BRP. Also, there's a nice campground in the upper elevations on apisgah on BRP.
Post this in the olde north state cruiser club section. All u nc guys check out the club forum! There are some great camp spots in pisgah
