I just searched on Ebay for the navigation update DVD for my '05, part #
86271-GEN04-15. Found many for sale for only $55 (and even less), but on most toyota OEM parts online sellers it's about $169! Have anyone bought update DVDs from these cheap EBay sellers? Real OEM or just a pirated copy? I'm so surprised at the price difference.

And will the non-OEM copies keep working? The DVD lives in a tough place, subject to large temperature and humidity changes. Will the copied disks warp and jam, or flake off coating and mess up the player. I'm not a big fan of the standard $169 OEM price, but given the really high cost of player R&R, I go with OEM when I update.

I'm running a pirated copy purchased off ebay last year (think I paid under $50 for it). Mine works exactly as advertised, but I may have got lucky. I was sure to keep the old OEM DVD in case issues popped up.

For $169 I can easily buy a Garmin GPS with free lifetime map updates, v.s. a DVD for this year's map update only. The decision is clear to me.

Take an ISO image of it and share :santa:

I have a 2013 pirated version - works fine. But, I don't use it anymore. Waze is sooooo much better. I really hope manufacturers stop putting nav systems in cars.

i rarely if ever use in-dash navi. it's easier to use google maps, or look up contacts' addresses if in town, on phone and factory navi is basically worthless if off road.

Can you folks with pirated copies let us know what eBay buyers you used? I've been hesitant on pirated copy since I don't know anyone that has purchased one and been happy. Mine is a 2002 and it's never been updated - I would just like to have the road I live on to show up on my map :) but don't want to spend a fortune. I find it good for reference but use my phone for navigation.
Thanks

I bought mine from user dvdnavman. He doesn't have anything listed on ebay currently so I'm not sure this is much of a help. For reference, I paid $45 for the DVD ~6 months ago.

a local has a pirated copy. it works but has to be in the player all the time. FWIW
