My wife picked up the new nav DVD from the Toyota dealer the other day for our 2003 hundy. I installed it today and notice the disk, but not the box, says west on it. Does it normally also come with the east disk?

We are west from what I can tell but I'm guessing that our trips o Florida, Arkansas, and Louisiana will no longer be covered by this Disk?

Our previous disk covered the whole US, so I'm a little pissed if $220 only gave me half the country, especially since the DVD box doesn't seem to indicate that. Am I missing something?

I have the Gen4 nav system in my '04 LC (same as your '03) and updated the disk to data version 11.1 last fall. The disk covers the entire lower 48 and Canada. The regular retail price is $169.

We 03 owners actually have a different generation nav system than the 04s.

As for the disc, I have a 09 disc and it still displays all sections of the us, you just need to select the region.

I have an '04 as well with the older disc. Did you buy the 11.1 from the dealer? Is it a little more user friendly?

I have a 2002 and as I understand it our hard drive is not large enough for all the new information so they decided to split the non map information into West and East. The map will still be good for the whole country, including Canada, but if you try to search for a "El Pollo Loco" in New York, you're SOL.

This must be what is going on. I checked it again today and it does let me look up addresses in other zones, but the disk clearly says "West" and it is 11.1. I think the dealer may have charged my wife too much, I'll have to give them a call on Monday.

I don't see much different in the interface from our original 2003 version, but some of the new roads that were missing are now on there.

Thanks all!

Where is the "east" and "west" line? Anyone know?

The DVD is probably the same for cruisers. See link for east/west partition.
Lexus Parts World - Lexus Floor Mats and Accessories

Wow, I previously wondered to myself if the line was the Mississippi River but figured the line would be even further west. No its further east.

Too bad for those folks in TN, KY and IN as they don't even get their whole state on one disc. That being said, the description does explain you get the whole US on both discs, just limited as to points of interest if on the other side of the line.

Take note that you lose your ability to "override" the greyed out nav functions while moving if you update your nav dvd. I updated my 2006 and lost this functionality, essentially making my nav a driveway toy instead of a useful tool. I then purchased a Coastal Tech Key to re-unlock the features. After install, it did not work. Coastal Tech stated that their key does not go up to the version that I have (10.1), but offered a return on the item. They said that they would have one that works with 10.1 in June. At this point, I went back to my original nav dvd to find out that the updated dvd flashed the firmware and I still didn't have the original factory features. After a little research, removing power from the nav for about an hour did the trick. The next time I started it, it reloaded the original firmware and I am back in business.

All opinions aside on whether the unit should be used while in motion or not, here in the United States, tangible property is owned by an individual or entity. It is not, under our constitution, within the rights of Toyota, Lexus, The United States Federal Government, State or Local Governments or any of it's elected officials or agents to modify, change, improve or destroy tangible property owned by an individual or entity. The only rights that are afforded government agencies is a representative tax on the item, or an enforcement of law as it pertains to using a particular item. In this country, you cannot modify someone else's property to make it comply with your "opinion" of the law or moral order.

^^^^ This is not necessarily true. I have an 03 and updated to the latest DVD and all of my override functions work the same as they did before.

Not that I agree with it, but driving in the US is not widely recognized by courts or law makers a "right" under the Constitution, but rather a "privilege". As such, the theory goes that government has the constitutional authority to regulate that activity. Much like they require ABS brakes, air bags, speed limits, etc.

That being said, I don’t know of a government mandate that says Nav units have to have certain features disabled when moving. I suspect, this “safety feature” is not a result of a law or regulation, but rather of the vehicle manufacturer’s choosing to disable it to prevent potential liability from personal injury lawsuits.

I believe you get $79 off. The price is $150.

Yes you are correct, I misread

Agreed, as I stated here: "or an enforcement of law as it pertains to using a particular item."

To reiterate, this isn't about the use of the item, this is about Toyota, or anyone else for that matter, not having the right "to modify, change, improve or destroy tangible property owned by another individual or entity."

Just the same, if one of my neighbors drives too fast down the street, endangering my family, I can call for an enforcement of the law. I cannot go to their house and remove their accelerator pedal from their car to make it safer.

Now, If they had sold me a vehicle with a navigation unit that was not useable and I knowingly purchased it, then we would be talking about a different beast all together. I would simply have a complaint about a product and in the future, I would reserve the right not to ever purchase a product from them again. In this case, I purchased an item because it worked for my needs and Toyota came along after the fact and vandalized it. According to Toyota in this case, they are taking it upon themselves to modify your vehicle to meet their needs after they no longer own it. If Toyota's Legal Department one day determines that driving your Land Cruiser exposes them to too much liability, you can take it in for an oil change and get it back without an accelerator pedal.

I see your point. But in this case they probably had warnings in the upgrade agreement? (didn't read mine) So they would probably say that you accepted the change as part of your agreement.

I think your point is similar to if you took your 100 to the dealer to get a new starter installed, and while they were working on it, without your consent, they swapped all your seat belts for 5 point harnesses.

I recall reading somewhere in another thread that they took away the override for several versions, and have now brought it back for 11.1. :meh:
