The reader in my 2001 stopped working so I need to pull it and have it repaired. There's a specialty shop in Burnsville MN that believes it's the internal laser and can fix it for ~$200. The big question is, can I pull the unit out and still have functioning climate and radio controls?

Has anyone else been through this and/or know the answer?

FYI - I did search and could not find a definitive yes or no.

Thanks!

Mine does anyway - maybe the first year? I'm new to the hundy so still learning...

Yes first year, mine has it as well.
You can use a newer nav unit, they are plug and play.

if it is plug and play I have a 2006 nav ecu with disk that worked when I took it out. Cheap. part # 86841-50090 I wouldn't think it would be plug and play but it could be. Image search the # and back side connections, if you want.

I pulled the unit today and confirmed that the audio and climate controls work fine. I dropped it off at the reapir shop and will report back once it's back in the vehicle.

I have a 2001 as well and replaced my Nav drive with one from a newer model. I think it was from a 2006 which is Gen 3. Works great. Seems like I paid $150 for it.

Got the unit repaired, plugged back in and all is good... except I'm in it for $350 - ouch. Merry Christmas to me! The tracking motor was replaced and laser cleaned per the work order. I thought about picking up a used reader as stated above, but that carries risk too. Oh well - movin on.
