What do dealerships use to value a trade in?

A lot of them use something called a Black Book, which reflects actual recent auction prices. For a car that is traded in, and most likely won't be hitting that particular dealer's lot, rather moved to auction immediately, I think that is what you will hear.

Insurance uses local searches to figure values along with other factors.

If you go to ancira Chevrolet's website they have the black book calculator for you to use for free when calculating trade in value. KBB seems to be off on values when dealing with a dealership.
