Well I decided to start my bumper/tire carrier build. I wanted to improve the approch angle while I was in ther rooting around. After much diliberation I decided the only way to get both was to do cutting. Enter the cut off disc... I wanted to make sure that the tire carrier was not going to be at jeopardy (interfere wtih departure angle) after I trimmed my bumper back, so I had to make sure that it was as high as possible.

In the pics you can see the only way to achieve the height(sp?) is to cut on the rear support member by the body mount. I reinforced the cut section with a piece of 1/4" bent plate I had from one of my jobsites a long time ago. I know my light guage welding skill have a lot to be desired, but there is plenty of weld after grinding and making sure I was getting a good bond.

Then I took some 18 ga. sheets I bought at Home Depot and cut the desired pattern and welded them into seal the bottom of the fender. Still working on the driver side. More to come later...

I WISH my wife would have let me chop up her 80 like that. I would have taken a completely different approach to my rear bumper build.
