My New Dog, What Is It?

What do ya think, we are borrowing this little guy from the rescue, should we keep him?

He is 11 weeks old, his mom is a Lhasa Apso (Tibetan Terrier)

Anybody have a clue what the rest of him is? 'Cause he doesn't look any thing like a Lhasa.
Any dog experts? He doesn't have a black tongue but most of his mouth is black. When he is in the sunlight his fur has a very noticeable red tinge to it. The rescue's vet thinks he will grow to be about 25lbs.


He is remarkably well behaved and very calm. But what the hell is he?

Hard to tell when they're that little, but mutts rock. If you get along you should keep him.

he looks smallish, not sure how big a lahsa ahpso (SP?) is, but he looks to have a bit of Pomeranian in him.... or a slight pinch of Mogwai..

(Gotta wonder about an asian dog breed called "chow"! )

Top of my list of possibilities is Chow, but NO black tongue, black mouth but not tongue, could just be the mutt thing though.

Markings said Colie or Ausi Shepherd. I though maybe Pomeranian but the skull is not right.

You have to wonder..................Lhasa's only get to be 10-15lbs and all of these are big dogs (which is cool) but how did that work? Just stand over the bitch and have a go?

Oh, and Pomeranians are yippy, ( I don't want one 'cause of that) but this little guy hardly makes a peep. Just sits around tilting his head and watchin stuff.

I had to bring in an expert to explain why my new rescue puppy (was my daughter's) had a total personality change after being adopted. I guess it's pretty common for rescue dogs to be very calm and well behaved as a way to get out of the kennel and than revert to their "real" personality after they have a new home. What was a calm, lap dog was actually a very high strung, quite neurotic dog

She ended up as my dog and it's been a couple years and she's still a very "needy" dog but she has a home for her lifetime. Apparently she was pretty seriously abused and neglected by the PO but it's still hard sometimes. I just think it's worth mentioning, your pup looks quite young so it may not be an issue that you will encounter.

My pups a cross between a Cattle Dog & Italian Greyhound, as the trainer said: "Could you find two more high strung breeds to mate!

Pomeranian huh. I never knew that's what those were called. My neighbor has one. I think it has been the cause of our contention over the past 2 1/2 years, I must've made a comment about the dog in the back yard that they overheard when we moved in.

Fawkin little yapper! Fits my neighbors.

Whoops, misread your post--no black tongue, much less likely a chow IMB. Still a possibility, and a good looking dog, always looking at you, from the pictures, which I think is a good sign.

I say keep him!

I don't think that a chow is going to get it on with a 10-15lb dog... His eyes were the first thing that I noticed, and I immediately noticed the resemblance to my girlfriend's pomeranian. I am not an ankle biter type of dog guy, and I definitely don't think it is Chow. If not Pom, then your guess is as good as mine.
