Well, it's finally arrived. Kids already named it the "Valdez" as it leaks a little.

Pretty clean with minimal rust, did I pay too much, yes probably but I wanted it and besides it's red just like my FJ45. I noticed a couple of things.
Two piece front windows.
Looks like two sets of FJ-40 rear seats, and it has popout windows. Here are some photos.

Great looking rig!! One can never pay too much for the right rig.

I'd love to see this one on the registry - the link is in my signature. Where is it from? Is that a water filler port on the right side above the sand rail?

Cheers,

Josh

I bought it from a gentleman in Canada. But it has these ID's attached. Looks like German and French. Sorry about the blurry photos. Also looks as if it had an aftermarket A/C system? Anyone ever seen a plate attached to the front of the motor like this? Oil is leaking from the filter. I thought that an "H" motor had the canister type oil filter that goes inside of a housing? Someone has put a spin-on filter and it leaks badly. Oil pan needs a new gasket. Exhaust is shot.

nice glad to see it made the trip.
intersting as it is a non full float rear.

also is there another "gas" door under the driver rear most vent window?

right on, congrats

I can't tell what your VIN is, but are you sure it is an '81? It looks like the first two numbers after HJ45 are '00', which would make it a late '70s (this can't be right, going by the rig itself). If the first two are '08', then that is the highest-number HJ45 I've seen, which must mean that it was one of the last HJ45s ever made.

Great find!

i know the guy that use to own this on saltspring island. apparently he got off a guy from germany who used it on trips through europe then he imported it a few years ago. very nice truck

Peter,

Do the Europeans use a different VIN system than the Aussie ones did on the 40 series Cruisers? There are more numbers on this German/French one than there are on the Aussie and pre-'81 US 40 series.

G`day Josh,
pretty sure they don`t (the producer / Toyota stamp the VIN in)
I was a bit confused when I saw this plate

on Mikes Troopy. It`s not the norm that a used car that come to Germany get a new VIN plate.
There must be a special reason why this 45 got this new plate.

Cheers
Peter
