I picked up my new 80 today. I was up at 4:30 - 5 hours on the train and a 4 hour drive home. All is good.

I have noticed that there is a bit of a clunk (I presume from the prop shaft) when putting on the power after easing off. Might this be the UJ's? It is a manual box so maybe that's just what they do - I don't think so though.

I have taken a couple of pics of a clever blind that pulls down over the radiator - This may be unique to diesels.. It looks like something off Ice Road Trusckers. There is a little pull down blind with a hook - to release just unhook and it winds back up..

Rad blind is a cold spec thing. Pretty trick.
Congrats on the new 80.
Probably have some wear in the drive plates/ birf shaft splines.
All full time 80s seem to clunk to a degree. You get used to it after a bit and tend no to pull the foot off as fast.

Where do I get one of these blinds? I've never seen such a thing. Most people around these parts use cardboard. :(

Edit: Would this interfere with a JDM aux fan on the right side of the truck?

congrats!

cute mod, that will come in handy for those -50C days in Britain... :)
But best part is you could put on some graphics of choice...!

The guy spends 9 hours fetching his new 80-Series and then posts up a picture of a rusty, dirty, contraption that looks like an old roll-up window blind. This surely isn't the 100-Series or 200-Series section and we've definitely turned a corner in the 80-Series section.

Hey Jimbo.... How about a nice picture of your new-to-you truck. Preferably with a bikini-clad girl friend washing the bonnet.

Yours truly,

I second the bikini-clad girlfriend pic of your new Cruiser....

:bounce::bounce2:

More Pics.... and bikinis.... :D

I had the same problem when I bought mine. Searched this forum and found that the issue may be due to the splines in the driveshafts lacking grease. I took the shafts out, separated the halves, and greased the splines manually. Clunk is gone. I was thinking brakes, U joints, or major slop in the transfer case -- but luckily it was simply the driveshaft splines.

Good luck!

So what size tires can you run on a stock 80, what are the best tires, what oil do you use, is this a good price for this cruiser, locked or unlocked, what kind of leather do you prefer, does yours have a 40th anniversary sticker and badge, I have a leak, how much is it going to cost, is the dealership ripping me off, and best of all.....when is my clear coat going to fail?

I hope we have turned a corner, but my birfields are clicking and I have to apply just a little throttle while cornering.

-B- LOL. Well, for those of you who appear to be less interested in my Ice Road Trucker blind than seeing my Landcruiser and bikini clad wife, I have attempted to make ammends..

After reading Jeepers post about greasing the splines in the prop shaft (thanks for the tip) I announced to my wife that I was just going outside to grease my nipples. I told her I wouldn't be long and if if she didn't mind, would she come along in 10 minutes wearing her bikini and bring the camera with her. The look she gave me was slightly puzzled and at the same time disgusted. I took it as a no.

So here we have the new truck minus the wife...

Not bad eh? One of the wheel arches has faded and needs painting and the alloys are a state. Soon have thm fixed up:cheers:

See that little knob just under where the key goes - do you have them in the USA?: That's to adjust the idle so it warms up a bit quicker on those cold Ice Trucker UK winter mornings.

In the USA we have to buy the hand throttle and add it. None of ours had those in stock form. Fortunately, Slee off-road sells them and I believe Cruiserdan can get them. That was one of the first mods that I did right after your side marker lamps. :D

Thanks for the pictures Jim, and tell the wife we will anxiously await warmer weather for the bonnet shots.

The lazy A-hole orderlies are late with my meds again and I get a tad edgy 'round about this time. :flipoff2:

I am deeply sorry if anything that I said, in any way offended you or your buddies in the 100-Section. No, really I am. They post pretty pictures of their cars in the 100-Section and I never tire of seeing Schottz' car perched on that same rock... over, and over, and over again. Someday we'll get a YouTube video of his car rolling backwards down that rock but for now we have that picture burned indelibly into our retinas.
