Well said, I have the OME medium on my 60 and can't imagine being taller. With my rack fully loaded I hit every tree on the trail not to mention the lean at angles. I have personal never wished I had or needed more lean or clearance. My truck is my DD and weekend / trip wheeler.

going with the 6" Slee. I thought about 2.5 for a long time and then I thought about 4" but from what I really want is the 6" lift along with replacement lower control arms, relay link, tie rod and rod end set and just about everything else they make. Slee is going to be getting a lot of my $ over the next couple of years. Everyone says I'm strange in the fact that I go overboard on everything I do. You should see the computer setup I'm typing this on.

Oh if anyone ever needs help building or working on their computers it is a passion of mine. if you are in a market for a new PC send me a PM I can build you a much more powerful custom computer setup for about 1/2 the cost what you pay at retail. I will do it for free and it will only take a couple of hours to do. once parts are picked out and shipped in.

again my mind is made up:grinpimp:

You know thats just plain mean.:frown: nope, not even going to read any more of it!! just keep saying slee slee slee 6" 6" 6" 6" ...OK now I feel better...if there is anything more extream than the 6" slee please don't let me know about it. My 5'4" :princess: thanks you.

I'm now a convert to the 'overdo it the first time so you won't be disappointed later' way of thinking. I have no second thoughts about doing the Slee 6" kit. I will be doing something different on my next build, but for the first one his 6" kit is the way to go.
I won't have to spend a penny on the truck to fit the 37's I now crave after running 35's for a year. You won't be unhappy with your choice, once you get over the buyer's remorse. :D

Well said!! I couldn't say it better myself.

Well like you said you want to be ready for anything you throw at it. and cruisers will catch ever bit of cash you can throw. Wheel what you like. :)
My brother in law just put the Pro comp 6" on his FJ. I have to say it looks sweet and fancy. Now he needs new tires, gears, and a loan to start the next step.

That looks sweet! almost looks like a Fox shock. I love Fox's stuff on my mountain bikes I bet they make some great shocks for trucks as well but I bet they are really pricy. Could any one give me a break down of the aftermarket shocks available. From the "I would not put this on my truck if you paid me " to the "I need a 2nd mortgage to afford 4 of these but I really think it might be worth it" types and where dose the N73L / N74L Shocks from slee fall in the field.

If I were to spend over $3000 on a kit, I would at least look at others to make sure that is what I really really really want. The Outback kit has very impressive flex, and you don't have to get the 7" kit to fit 35" tires. If you don't like flex then it is a different story

Point well taken. That outback kit dose sound nice but one worry I would have is that it appears at least to be a first gen kit and I think the slee might be more evolved. Because I'm spending so much I want to make sure that it is as fine tuned as it can be and have the least amount of trouble I can get away with durning the install. Your right though I should look at all possibilitys.

I didn't realize that my truck didn't flex:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

They all flex, some flexes okay, some flexes good, some flexes better, some flexes best :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Here is a sincere question, how's your flex compare to this picture?

I think rather close....however, it has been pretty well documented that the 6" lift flexes as much as the radius arms will let it. the flex is not limited my the springs but by the design of the front suspension in stock form. That trunk looks like it is running coilovers and I am not sure what the front links are. I do know that it doesn't flex any better that Action Jacksons 80 and his has the 6" springs and socks just with a custom 3 link which will flex better.

As Kevin has pointed out the J springs will flex sooner but not any more. the slee springs have a much better loaded ride on road and on back roads...but on really ruff roads and unloaded the J's will flex with every little bump better than the slee springs. It is just a trade off. I like the slee springs and know that they flex VERY well. :flipoff2:

That front change would make an amazing difference if you run difficult trails!

I think I see the confusion now. I was referring to the flex of the kit, not the flex of individual springs. IIRC, the Outback kit has 3-link on the front.

I am done with this hijack now. Sorry Evan!

Flex is only one part of the equation.

With the current shock available for the 6" Slee kit (OME L-series) the big compromise is the lack of down-travel. For on-road and expo (or light) wheeling this doesn't come into play. On difficult trails it doesn't come into play MUCH while level and/or going uphill.

It's going downhill when weight is shifted from the rear that's compromised. Dropping off rocks and ledges, twisted terrain on steep downslopes.....this truck is TIPPY as the shocks do not have enough down-travel. The 80 with Slee 6" is a WHEEL-LIFTER in these conditions.

Until a different shock is available the best fix is to modify the upper or lower shock mount in order to help restore down vs up travel. 1.5 to 2" mod is the max without issues. I've done the 1.5 and will road test soon. Meanwhile, if this was my only wheeler I'd rip the crap out. I much preferred my old 80 at just under 4". Perfect compromise for all uses (in my opinion).

And please don't get me wrong....the LX is very capable. At 6" up it does clear some things (rare) it wouldn't at 4". Overall though, I miss the stability and while easy in my old 80 at 4" I don't know if I'll try this line up at 6". I'm expecting it to feel more like my 100 did.

Thanks for all the great replies and well thought out answers. So I'm still on course to get the slee kit and now have a place to install it and people willing to supervise. Thanks Madbaggins and BwardeAZ!

I have been looking around on line at tires. it seems like I will be needing to spend in the area of $200+ a piece(ouch) it looks like the BFG A/T are really popular. what should i get? It will mostly be driven out to chiva falls, up the back side of the Catalina's and similar places in the south west, as well as being a daily driver and mall cruiser when the in laws are in town.

Also I have a set of the Michelan LTX with only about 3K on them. will it be worth it to get another set of rims and have a set of cross country tires or will the truck just be really funky to drive with a 6" lift and stock tires?
