The part number I think I need is 6920990K0016. That's the black plastic handle that opens up the larger back door. My local Toyota parts people are no help, and a web search leads me to obscure web sites where I do not want to send my money. Any help?

Inside (between the left and right barn doors) black plastic handle that opens up the larger of the two barn doors. Just the handle. Does that help? I don't have a picture right now, nor will be where I can take one until this weekend.
I thought I saw someone on here recently buy an aftermarket handle that was billet aluminum. I think it was for a different series truck, but it worked.
The aluminum one was for the 80 series, as I recall.
Look in Toyotas of the same year as your cruiser at the wreckers (if you can find any) and look at their door handles. I'm thinking the Tercel's of those years and maybe some others used the same handle as the back door of your LJ78. Or, you can contact these guys: http://jdmparts.ca/index.php? Pretty sure they have a couple parts LJ78 vehicles. They will probably sell you the part if you want.
The correct part number is 6921290K00 or 6921260030. I believe it's the same as in the 80 series too. You can get it from www.partsouq.com or around $10 or cruiserparts.net for around $15.

The 70 paddle handle is the same one use on the 80. the number has been superseded to a version that uses a shouldered attaching screw as opposed to a tapered countersunk. Order one for an 80 and get the new screw as well.
