My First Cruiser (not my last)

Interesting that there is Dynamat in the truck. Have you noticed whether it is quieter than a stock 80? Congratulations on your buy. I got an 80 last October and the more I look at it, the more impressed I am.

I'm not sure if its quieter than a stock 80, but it is pretty quiet just in general. road noise is minimal and the exhaust is only loud when starting from a dead stop if i punch it (obvious...) no highway droning.

So this is a warning

Because of where i live now, i have to keep my cruiser out under trees. Not only do i contend with bird poop (hawk size...not pretty) but also the amount of leaves that end up on my A/C intake grate below the windshield. I got sick of the build up one day and took off the panel. To reveal something I did not expect...

Not only was there massive leaf build up, but they had started to rot and i even found a tiny species of ant colony hiding deeper in the fender.

so after taking a shop vac and washing it out (along with the panel inside and out) and blowing out the crevices with a compressor I got it all shiny and clean.

So word of warning...keep that crap clean. Though sadly now I have a slight rotten leaf smell through the A/C though it goes away after a few minutes...Still trying to figure out how to cope with that.

Just thought I'd share with the community my experience.

Interesting. I'll have to check that out. For the last two and a half years I smell the dust of the Mojave Road for a few minutes every time I turn on my a/c. Three days of eating dust in a caravan really put the dust deep in the a/c system.

I'd probably prefer the dust smell. I bought my LC in Colorado so it still carries some of the dust from it's previous owners from AZ and the boonies of CO. Good luck cleaning that sucker out...

Did a few new things.

Just did the Pin-7 mod...didn't have terminal pullers so I clipped the wire and bandaged the ends up. Works like a dream if a little messy.

Before that i also finally added the AC Dryer plate from Slee that PO had bought. It had some bare metal spots on the inside so i primed it and sprayed it with some rattle can enamel. Also did the same to the spacers and tow hooks while I was under there. Should have done something different for the towhooks as the enamel never really hardened right so flaked when the bolts were torqued down. Next time Im just going to sand and then spray Rust Stop on them. I had some little rust spots showing up on my lower and inside ARB bar as well so I shot it with the Rust Stop as well after cleaning it off. Also something odd, when reinstalling the bolts for the plate, one wasn't quite long enough so i had to get a new one from Ace. I think the bolts threads were not catching because they were worn. Also, this was my first time drilling metal so it was interesting. Makes me feel like I could actually install a snorkel...

FINALLY got my snorkel...

Apparently Mud doesn't like my flickr links today...:meh:

3 Hours, my great aunt fanny. Only have one bolt left for the A-pillar bracket that is slightly off, just need to grind the hole down just a tad and it'll be fine. :bang:

Hardest part was reassembling the air filter. the tube from snorkel to cylinder is not quite right... Also, the template wasn't totally accurate so I did a lot of back and forth with the snorkel with the studs in. Still, the drilling was a breeze and the sheet metal hole saw was the easiest part. I like it. Can I do it some more please? haha.

So, next up is breather extensions, checking fluids and washing out the engine bay that I forgot to do after Hard Rock last time...:whoops:

Excuse the grainy and cock-eyed photos.
